Ha, ha. Sorry Lavitz, I didn't mean to scare you. For anyone else who didn't get the joke, those words are a reference to an old episode of How I Met Your Mother.

I contemplated leaving it empty but wrote down 3 assignments with a very brief description...none of which I would like to discuss in detail

I wasn't asked about this in the interview, and IIRC no one else has mentioned it being a part of their interview either (except maybe one person who had significant research experience). You probably don't have anything to worry about sinfiery.

Thanks, hope that's the case.

Just finished reading all 29 pages. Got a few links to go through and some interview topics to prepare for, if I am fortunate enough to be given one.

Great information. A big calming of my nerves.

Does anyone (read: Lavitz) know what time of the day JS has started making the calls in the past? Tomorrow could be torturous.

In the morning. Will probably start around 10am EST. They also usually start with people on the East Coast and then move west as the day progresses.

It's also common for people abroad to receive e-mails instead of phone calls since JS doesn't want to wake them if they're sleeping.

Yeah. Tomorrow is going to be pretty tense. Thanks for the info, Lavitz!

Did most people put something for that writing question on the application? I left it blank, since I never did a thesis and can't think of any other papers where I had more than one round of edits. I used to work for a daily newspaper (professional, not college) but because of the deadlines even that never involved multiple rounds of edits. I thought about using that space to explain my writing experience and why it didn't quite fit what they were asking for but was still significant, but thought that might just piss them off.

Did anyone else leave it blank?

Incidentally, my Google Dictionary add-on for Chrome gave me definitions for possimpible and connectitude.

Are we looking for calls from 617 or from 857?

I planned on looking for 617 (or really any number that would be calling me during work). That's the number I've heard they usually call from. I know that sometimes they've called from a different number, but I'm not familiar with it being 857.

Not 100% sure, but it seems very likely.

I listed three papers that went through two rounds of edits, but I know some people who left it blank. I don't think it will affect your app greatly, and I definitely think you made the right call by not telling them you were intentionally ignoring their instructions and discussing something you knew didn't fit the parameters.

Will be holding my breath all tomorrow after what was a bit of an underwhelming JS1. Good luck to everyone else waiting for JS2s as well as those who have not gotten JS1s yet (but will in the next wave I am sure!) :)

hi,

i submitted 10-28, went complete 11-8. should i be concerned by lack of js1 at this point?

related: is there a spreadsheet anywhere with people's submission dates and outcomes thus far?

thanks

I went complete 10/10 and still haven't gotten one. I don't know how we should interpret this. If you read a couple of pages back TLS users who had JS1 usually indicate the date they went complete.

A few pages back, someone said that, last year, s/he got a KB2 from another (non-617) area code and almost did not pick up. I would say, just answer any calls you get today on whatever number you gave them! 857 is another Mass area code.

Could someone remind me how many people had JS1's and might get called today?

978 is a common area code around here for cell phones, especially the suburbs of Boston, so if she's on her personal phone for some reason, watch out for that too. but yea, seriously, why would you not pick up this week?

It would be truly dismaying to see neither JS2s nor JS1s on this highly anticipated day. :!:

This is all making me pretty nervous; I'm not gonna lie.

At the same time, I have a sinking suspicion that, if accepted, we won't be hearing until tomorrow or Wednesday. The turnaround for today just seems too fast.
