Going back and looking, I'm mistaken and you are correct. While it is not crystal clear in the way it's communicated by HLS, I can't find a single example of someone admitted without an interview.

but I do think ppl with "stellar number" havent gotten interviews because the process is taking longer... longer interviews that are harder to coordinate...

Agree. Does seem to be moving slower than last year based on impressions from last year's thread.

As an aside, stand by for bump-griping.

EDIT: apologies to thread watchers.

I can't imagine Skype interviews being that much harder to coordinate than a phone call, but maybe I'm wrong.

I wonder if they are going slower to allow for more apps to come in and get a better idea of their class given the real or perceived sea change going on with LSAT takers/applications.

pure spec

EDIT: sorry for bump, Whitey

Lavitz,

Any clue when the next batch of JS1's will be sent out? You were right on last time.

Thanks!

One thing I don't see discussed much is whether schools like Harvard that are keen to keep their medians high would consider lowering the amount of URMs admitted per class. I've heard talk of either lowering class size or taking a hit on medians, but it seems that there's an implicit assumption out there that schools have a certain percentage of URMs that they want per class. Not that URMs necessarily have lower stats by any means, but it does trend that way on the whole.

I don't see Harvard wanting to lower class size again this year. I just wonder if lowering admitted URMs might be a factor considered in this down cycle to maintain medians.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I predicted one batch a week, so probably by the end of this week. Last time I was able to guess the day by looking at the number of available timeslots, but it's difficult to tell now because they haven't posted next week's schedule yet. I also don't know whether they'll send out a new batch the same day they post the schedule or if there will be a slight delay. But once they post the schedule, you can be sure a new round is coming soon.

If I had to guess, I'd say Wednesday only because there should be no interviews conducted that day. They could also do it later in the week, such as Friday.

An assistant dean spoke at my undergraduate school last week. She stated that all those who are accepted will be interviewed. Hope that clears it up!

That's me boosting the hopes of early applicants with stellar numbers who haven't yet heard anything.

I'm sorry, but that's not correct. Everyone who eventually gets accepted always has to go through an interview first. I've never heard of an exception to this.

That was not my impression from reading the interviews that have been done with JS and her predecessors....but, I acknowledge that you're probably more schooled on the HLS process than I am. I'd have to go back and figure out how I got that impression....but in the meantime, I yield the point.

I actually spoke to KB about this when she visited my school a while back and she said that every single person that gets accepted goes through an interview

I went back and found the misleading email I had -- part of a discussion with an attorney friend from Boston who went to BC but has been connected to HLS through his friends/associates. He wrongly stated that "most people who get in have an interview." He was clearly wrong, but it seeped into my knowledge base. He'll buy the first single malt next time we see each other.

Sorry for the stray voltage. I'm just clinging to my waning days on this thread before I get dinged outright.

Hah, thanks for posting that. I was going to ask that during mine, but now it looks like I won't have to.

Okay, so most likely Monday, unless it appears they're doing more interviews that day, in which case it would probably be whichever pre-Thanksgiving day they're not doing interviews.

Do you think if we've had a JS1 (I had mine on the 9th) and don't hear back before Thanksgiving, we can assume we're on hold?

If you had your JS1 last week and don't hear back in the first wave, then honestly, yes I think that would be the most likely explanation. If they aren't ready to admit you even after they've obviously finished analyzing all your application components--including the interview--then that probably means they're waiting to compare you to everyone else.

With that said, I'm sure you'll get in with your numbers. :)

Just finished my interview. Jessica Soban is the absolute pinnacle of awesomeness.

We'll see what happens 8).

Edit: Good luck to everyone else!

Also just finished my interview but it was with KB--who is pretty awesome herself.

Questions I remember her asking:

"Tell me about your job."

"How have your experiences at that job informed your decision to go to law school?"

"What are you looking forward to at Harvard?"

"Is there a particular area of study you find most attractive?"

"What do you think your greatest challenge would be at Harvard?"

"What accomplishment are you most proud of?"

"What do you envision a successful career for yourself would look like?"

"Is there anything you were hoping I would ask? In other words, is there anything not in your app that you'd like us to know about you?"

"Do you have any questions for me?" (Asked her like 4 questions)

Interview lasted about 14:30.

Edited to add more questions I just remembered.

Good job!

I'm starting to freak out about not asking questions... Anything I would have wanted to ask, I had already looked up.

Oh well....

Does anyone care to share some of the questions they asked the interviewer? I can't think of what I would want to know from them, but I feel like you have to ask SOMETHING.

Stop stressing guys! The interview really isn't that bad at all. Based off mine, it does not seem like Jessica (or Karen I'm sure) is out to get you. They just want to see a face behind the applicant.

Good luck :). Hopefully some of us get in next week. To be honest, just getting an interview still seems pretty surreal. Getting into Harvard seems so awesome it almost seems impossible.

One thing that annoyed me was that during the interview, friends kept texting me "good luck"! and so on and my phone kept buzzing. Kind of distracting :O.
