Assuming the LSN participation level is roughly the same and assuming HLS makes a similar number of offers this year as last, there are probably only ~150 offers on the table so far and ~700 remaining. Keep in mind also that many of the early admits had galactic numbers and will likely get Y/S offers, which some will take.

A long way of saying: it's early. Even if you are held, I think you'll compete well with the remainder of the pool as it assembles, and many of you will be admitted. This is all pure 0L speculation, something energetically resisted on this thread.

Words of wisdom

I love you all, but it is so much easier to say "just hang on" when you've got a 617 number in your recents. It's rough feeling left out, wondering what went wrong, when it might come, whether it ever will, etc. Trying to cry it out last night gave me a migraine, so internet forum poetry it is. Bear with us :)

That said, I'm really glad to see some movement today. Congrats new JS1s!

You're right. And so while all we want to do is say to you, "Hang on - it's coming . . . stay tough . . . etc." that's not going to make it any better.

Rather, my only words to those awaiting a JS2 or even a JS1 is this - I'm rooting for you and hope good news is coming your way soon!

For some reason, I've received more emails and texts today than any other day I can remember, and each one makes me think Harvard is calling. I appreciate the well-wishes that everyone is giving us, and that helps a little, but it is still miserable. I finally understand what it was like for those in the earlier rounds who got stuck in this position.

You know, I have a good offer on the table as it is right now... I kind of wish the other schools I applied to would just ding me today, then everything would be easy.

Edit: ESPECIALLY Harvard. This is my huge reach, and the one that could throw all my plans out of whack.

Would you take Harvard over $105k at UVA?

Grats new JS1s!

I used to flinch every time I got an email, but it's starting to wear off thankfully.

I'd probably get max need aid from Harvard, since I'm a poor... So yeah.

At sticker? Dicey decision, especially since UVA is in-state tuition.

Had my JS1 this morning. Not sure how to interpret it :| .

First she asked about my jump in LSAT score and my GPA trend through undergrad, since my numbers aren't the strongest (LSAT 169/176, GPA ~3.6). She said that although they do look at numbers they're interested in candidates who have done interesting things, etc.

Then she wanted to talk about my Fulbright this year, what kind of research I'm doing this year, how I might eventually apply for an MPP. She asked if law school was the plan the upcoming fall and I said yes. Then we wrapped it up and I asked two questions. She said she looks forward to getting in touch again.

Eek?? Chance or no chance? It seems like a bad sign that her first two questions were about negative aspects of my app.

This is my favorite poem (not much of a poetry guy, all bout dat nonfiction for me), but it's probably a little too melodramatic to apply to my JS0 status:

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in the sands of the desert.

A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

Well, my getting a JS1 would be a sign of the second coming...

For those of you who interviewed, how did you answer the "biggest challenge you will face at HLS" question?

In a way, it's like a weaknesses question. I'm thinking of talking about finding social opportunities beyond my section / year and then discussing student organizations, journals, etc. as a mitigating factor. IDK, though.

I'm in bootcamp mode.

Can people who have had their JS1 maybe share some of the questions they were asked? I'm nervous for mine this week!

I read one of the poems a while back in this thread and thought it was really funny. It made me think of this while I was at the gym today (to those who partook in the Oct. Waiting Thread, forgive my reference—unfortunately I was just a lurker):

Though pleased I'd be, with a letter to me, from the Connecticut town New Haven,
'Tis more that I seek, the privilege to speak, with a lady from six-one-seven.
Oh Harvard, if of mercy thou hast but a shred,
Make us not, here rehash, the October Waiting Thread.
For if my status, thou dost hide, as Sandy hid my score,
Thy crimson flag shall bear my curse, now, forevermore.

Just fyi I got asked a different version of this question that was just "biggest challenge you will face at law school" as in any law school not HLS. I had prepared an answer about HLS specifically so I was definitely caught off guard. Any future JS1ers should try and brainstorm answers that fit both, which I think yours does nicely.
