In case you're interested, I just got an external mic today at Radio Shack; it was $19 with tax so not too bad. It clips on your computer so you cannot see it.JedBartlett wrote: Quick question: Do you think it is okay if I have a headset with an attached mic during the interview? This seems pretty obvious to me, but if you feel uncomfortable wearing the headset you can always just plug in the mic and not the headphones (headsets have plugs for both, you don't have to plug in both for one or the other to work) and put the headset down on your table. Save 20 bucks.JedBartlett wrote: Quick question: Do you think it is okay if I have a headset with an attached mic during the interview? Or should I get another type of mic?

Re: Harvard c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Last year, I got one similar from the women association of HLS. Not a fee waiver, just an email telling me about HLS in general and some specific details about the women club. This year I didn't get one (my numbers haven't changed). :/Kitkatt wrote:This. Does Harvard usually send out emails like these in past cycles? Never mind. Had to reschedule to Tuesday since I may still not have heat by Thursday, and I've been shivering uncontrollably every morning.Lavitz wrote:elterrible78 wrote:I would appreciate that, for sure. I talked with a friend at HLS today, and he pretty much confirmed that the past interviews were essentially Why Law / Why Harvard / Let's talk about your resume. Notwithstanding any changes due to the new, longer format, I'm prepared more or less for that. Let me know if they throw you a curveball. Will do.
So there's now an opening if anyone wants to reschedule their interview for Thursday morning.

I know you asked this in the other thread, but for anyone who didn't want to click around, here are my thoughts...JedBartlett wrote:Quick question to any current students (or others):
What is Harvard's social culture like? What are the people like? What is the atmosphere like?
I'm genuinely curious. Thanks!
We have a huge student body, so the social scene (as others have said) is going to be what you make of it. With that said, as a 1L the social scene is largely comprised by the people in your section. To some degree, it becomes very high-school. It really depends on the culture your section takes on--and no one can tell you what that's going to be.
I know a couple sections this year that are very laid back and incredibly easy going. I do, however, also know of a section that is incredibly cliquish --to the extent that they are rivals and choose to exclude one another from events or activities.
But, that social scene tends to change once you start choosing your own classes and break away from your section and once you join a clinic/SPO/journal/organizations. I'd say that pretty much at least 4 nights a week there's something going on, and for me I legitimately can't attend all of the things that I'd like to.

You need to put a floppy disk in your USB drive. That should work.Anonymous4444 wrote:I saw some posts about a mic. Sorry but do we need a mic? Is our computer alone not okay?

For those with JS1s, what days can you schedule an interview? This will probably help out with anticipating the next wave of invites.

do you guys think there's a chance that JS explicitly asked the interviewees not to disclose the Qs this time around (because they're super intense new ones)?rehsalt wrote:+1bernaldiaz wrote:bernaldiaz wrote:So radio silence aftera day and a halfthree days about how the new JS1s are going?
the silence is worrying, especially since i thought i remember a few people posted about scheduling Monday interviews.

But to be honest, I don't remember anyone here saying that they scheduled a Monday interview. And it would actually make sense if TLSers all chose the later days since we know we can get feedback from each other before we go ourselves. That would leave the non-TLSers as the only ones willing to take the Monday times, since they never expected to get feedback from others anyway.
Or this of course.venus wrote:Maybe. Or everyone is just too competitive...

I doubt this. I feel like the school wants you all to have as much information as possible. Additionally, the interview isn't meant to be a stressful situation. They just want to 1). learn more about you 2). see why you're interested in the school 3). sift out those who just want Harvard for H-Bomb dropping.

Yeah I think people are just curious about how she plans on filling the extra 10 minutes.
