Do we need to submit need aid to eligible for merit scholarship consideration at Cornell? Thanks all!

I don't think you do, but I think you need to contact financial aid to tell them you're only applying for merit aid, not need.

I'm sorry to ask a question I'm 100% certain is answered in here, but I've been through 30 pages and can't find it...

Do we need to submit need aid to eligible for merit scholarship consideration at Cornell? Thanks all!

Idk. I just filled this form out here: http://www.lawschool.cornell.edu/admissions/tuition/upload/2013-2014-Financial-Aid-Information-Sheet-3.pdf and only checked the merit-based box. I called admissions about something else and, while I had them on the phone, I asked if that was all I needed to do. It was lol, and then I just emailed it to them.

Should we complete this if we are on the WL/Reserve in hopes of attending?

I emailed them about this last month. You can submit the form before you're admitted, but if you're requesting to be considered independent from your parents financially, you have to wait to make that request until after you get in. They certainly didn't make it seem like you had to submit it before you're admitted, though.

Okay, I thought I could handle quoting multiple people in one post, but I guess I overestimated my abilities lol. Um, anyways.

I submitted mine sometime last week too. I think she said it wouldn't take too long. I mean they have an ASW coming up soon, so I bet they're trying to get everything done before that.

And re: being WL/reserved, I have no idea. I'd call tbh. They're very friendly and helpful!

They also give you ~two weeks to apply for financial aid after you get accepted. I don't see the point of sending in your files now if you're not admitted yet.

This is what I assumed would be the case.

Thanks for all your responses.

i really like cornell, but their tuition is bout 5 k higher than most schools i am looking at. that makes my scholly only worth about 30k not 45k. thoughts anyone.

My thoughts are that tuition differences of $5K are negligible given the rapid fluctuations (or increases) in tuition year to year. Maybe cornell stays at 54 while a cheaper alternative jumps to close the gap a year after your enroll. But yes the new york schools are pricy

Anyone have an idea of what someone with my numbers (168 3.75) should expect from merit aid at this point?

Went complete in Jan. and have been UR twice since with a few emails telling me they're still looking at files. At this point, do I even have a chance? First I was happy I wasn't an automatic reject but now I feel forgotten!

Anyone else still waiting for an initial decision?

169/3.5. Offered 7k/year, 21k total. Expected more TBH.
