Any recommendations on unique Cornell aspects to include there other than the charm of Ithaca?

Worth doing one if we went UR2 just this week? Or is probably too late for it?

Hi,
Just got an unexpected acceptance email on friday.
What do you all think of Cornell's reputation? it's an Ivy, but for whatever reason, it's ranked low on the law school rankings. I'm currently choosing b/t NYU & Cornell.
In 20 years after law school, do you think the Ivy League name will carry me farther or NYU's name?

Re: Cornell c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Congrats on the acceptance. Both schools are amazing schools, but for law in general, NYU will always have a better reputation in the law world (maybe not to lay/non-law people, but they may think "Princeton Law" is amazing too) simply because of its location of being in the mecca of law, NYC, if nothing else. If you can, you should check out both schools and see which is a better fit as one is in a heavy metropolis and the other in a rural, academic environment. Also, you may want to take into account the different programs each school offers as one may be more suited towards your specific goals then the other, E.G. if you wanted to do tax law than NYU is the place to be, but for labor and employment law, Cornell may be a better fit. I definitely wouldn't JUST take into account rankings as these are more of a guideline.shakespeare wrote:Hi,

I guess, in everything?
big law in new york firms, San Francisco firms, teaching jobs, clerkships and also academia (ex. a LLM or perhaps a PhD in a completely unrelated topic)? Also, I plan to work abroad, so overseas general reputation, as well?

They're both nationally recognized schools and, if you do well, should have no problem securing jobs at big city firms, slight advantage maybe to NYU here. To my knowledge, neither are really huge powerhouses for clerkship or academia but this is more speculative. I'd prob give Cornell a slight edge here based on school climate and type, but again I'm really not basing it on much and you should do some research. NYU has a slightly better international law program if your goals are to practice abroad.shakespeare wrote:I guess, in everything?

You really arent gonna go wrong with either school reputation wise. Go visit and see which one you feel you can spend 3 years of your life at as they are very different, if not polar-opposite, types of schools.

I agree, IDK if either places particularly well in SF, but a PhD in an unrelated subject isn't going to be impacted by your JD at all, I don't think. I'd go where ever is cheaper.Rlabo wrote:They're both nationally recognized schools and, if you do well, should have no problem securing jobs at big city firms, slight advantage maybe to NYU here. I'm choosing Cornell over NYU because of this:
And this:LRGhost wrote:I'd go where ever is cheaper.
Personally, my goals are more limited to clerking and NYC Biglaw, and while NYU definitely has a slight edge in both, it's not enough to justify the difference in cost in my opinion.Rlabo wrote:Go visit and see which one you feel you can spend 3 years of your life at as they are very different, if not polar-opposite, types of schools.

Does anyone know when the applicants placed on reserve will turn into an official waitlist?

Unfortunately, based on last year's thread it looks like everyone was stuck on reserve--aside from the few who got admitted/rejected--until a mass WL on June 21st.tocheer67 wrote:Does anyone know when the applicants placed on reserve will turn into an official waitlist?

I had UR 3 on 3/13 also. Your numbers give me hope, but at the same time they are high enough for me to believe they are YP'ing you. And therefore dash away all the hope I had gained ::(az21833 wrote:3/13 UR3. i guess this means im WL headed.
