Took me 27 days to go complete, and I submitted late in November. Cornell was the last school I went complete at.

According to LSN, they are making decisions on applications that went complete on November 23. Based on that, I'm not expecting a decision for another three weeks at the earliest.

Yeah I applied 11/15 and did not go complete until 12/5. I got an email saying they are actively reviewing my app so Im hoping I will know in another 2-3 weeks.

Wait, is it REALLY going to be mid-late April? When is their ASW? When do we have to put down deposits at other schools? I have no idea when we do that but their response time just seems late :-/

Does anyone know what the 1L class size was for the Class of 2015?

I checked Cornell's website and I could only find the medians.

Edit: This link http://www.jdunderground.com/lawschool/thread.php?threadId=34241 says that it is 194. Is that confirmed?

This also shows 194:

Keep in mind applicants* (I originally stated applications) for this year are off another 20% or so. Therefore it wouldn't be out of the question for medians and/or class size to drop again.

From a revenue standpoint, if they could achieve a 167 again, it would make sense to enroll a few more people right? At least as many as they were previously enrolling.

Yes, but I'm not certain how much revenue matters to these Ivy schools. Cornell has a 5 billion dollar endowment:

  I'd be happy with a personal endowment of 500,000.

Precisely. I haven't been able to find a chart of this, but most of the T14 (maybe all?) spend more on their students than they charge in tuition, so letting in a handful more students than you would normally doesn't really help if you don't think those students will contribute to the legacy and alumni base of your school.

That makes perfect sense.

Just the opposite. The marginal cost of admitting just 1 more student to the LS is near zero. But the marginal revenue is $200k. Add 10 new students, and it's a $2M payday. Of course, at a certain point, adding too many students requires another section/faculty member also be added.

Yes, on average, it costs more than $50k/pp to educate the undergrads. But that includes all of the engineering and science programs which can be very expensive on a per person basis. Lit/hume courses, OTOH... Undergrad programs also have to have the bed space (dorm facilities), which is not true for grad/professional schools.

Law schools tend to be cash cows for Universities (which is why law schools are still multiplying like rabbits, even in this economy).

If this were the case with the T14, then they would all be increasing class sizes and admitting anyone with a certain number profile. Without their reputation and rankings, the top schools would not have the competitive advantage that they do, so there are many more factors other than tuition revenue that come into play. A large part of that ranking is spending per student, and admitting more students would affect this ratio whether or not it affects their bottom line. This is why they have endowments and why they aggressively fundraise. And I would love to see your evidence for how Cornell, a school with a class of fewer than 200 students, is a cash cow for the university. Unless you were taking a conversation about the top schools and expanding the scope to include ALL schools just so you could show off how much you know.

I lol'd because this reminded me of "My Cousin Vinny" when the judge goes: "Didn't I ask you to wear a suit in my courtroom yesterday?" Vinny: "Oh you were serious about that?" (Vinny proceeds to be held in contempt).
