Thanks!! It's a great problem to have --but NYU was (is?) my dream school and I got $15k from them, so I thought my decision was 99% made. Part of me even hoped that Cornell would only give me $15-25k so it wouldn't complicate things at all. My parents live in Ithaca too so this scholly plus super-low COL makes Cornell a reaaaaally cheap option.MacB wrote:ph5354a wrote:$105,000 here! Happy and confused.

I'm pretty bummed because Cornell was always my first choice but no way can I swing that high of a COAuconjak wrote:Thanks,kaf5250 wrote:168/3.7uconjak wrote:NUMBERS PLEASEkaf5250 wrote:$10K/year, not really what I was hoping for

So it sounds like this scholly offer has had the same impact on both of us... muddying the waters and effectively making life more difficult, haha. Keep me in the loop on what you're thinking because I'm weighing this 35K/year against ~20K/year from NYU as well. Deeply, deeply confused myself.ph5354a wrote:Thanks!! Cornell for 66K COA? Where do I sign???ph5354a wrote:Thanks!! It's a great problem to have --but NYU was (is?) my dream school and I got $15k from them, so I thought my decision was 99% made. For ph, it would actually be Cornell for $116,724 COA, and that's if he/she pays zero for room/board. Still a huge amount of debt. For me it would be $159,028 COA... which is an even tougher pill to swallow.jvincent11 wrote:Cornell for 66K COA? Where do I sign???ph5354a wrote:Thanks!! I got the $35k/year scholarship from Cornell, so without room and board I would borrow about $25k/year, so $75k total, minus any SA money I would hopefully get. At NYU I'm looking at borrowing about $150k. And let the $75,000 decision commence!MacB wrote:For ph, it would actually be Cornell for $116,724 COA, and that's if he/she pays zero for room/board. Thanks for the info. I just find it weird because I'm 169/3.7 and others who have similar or slightly weaker numbers have just gotten accepted.Lavitz wrote:No idea how they decide who to interview and who to accept without interviewing at this stage. As for advice, I guess just convince them that you would attend if admitted. One question I've heard asked in a Cornell interview is "what other schools have you been admitted to?" So there's definitely a YP element for at least some candidates.
If you want general, non-Cornell-specific skype interview advice, you could read this thread.
Don't forget to factor in any personal misc expenses, food, transportation, etc, or the fact that tuition typically increases 3-3.5% per year, or that interest is accruing while you are in school. I would assume that when your first loan payment comes due six months after graduation, you will owe closer to 100K at Cornell, even if you live at home all three years.ph5354a wrote: I got the $35k/year scholarship from Cornell, so without room and board I would borrow about $25k/year, so $75k total, minus any SA money I would hopefully get. Yeah, you're definitely right, but those factors will probably be relatively the same at Cornell vs. NYU in terms of tuition increases and interest accruing, so I'm trying to base my decision on the difference between the two scholarships. I'm going to town on a pro/con list as we speak, but I'll also probs making a separate thread too, so I'd love your thoughts on that!MacB wrote:Don't forget to factor in any personal misc expenses, food, transportation, etc, or the fact that tuition typically increases 3-3.5% per year, or that interest is accruing while you are in school. Awesome! Yeah I'll def weigh in and will be very interested to hear others' opinions on the issue as well.ph5354a wrote:Yeah, you're definitely right, but those factors will probably be relatively the same at Cornell vs. NYU in terms of tuition increases and interest accruing, so I'm trying to base my decision on the difference between the two scholarships. Me neither. My stuff got sent in after the deadline though since I was accepted in march, so I'm guessing I have a while still.
