Wow this along with the 172/3.85 makes me think georgetown hijacked Cornell's admissions office in order to keep that number 13 position that or you guys are high up in the mafia or well known drug dealers.VeeD101 wrote:Shocking with your numbers. Submitted late Jan. Called office today to ask (respectfully) what the hold up was. Said they would get to "those files" this week.

Now I'm really worried about these reserves as I was hoping that at least Cornell would be a good bet for me.

This will probably be the last time I post about this in this thread (though I'll happily PM thoughts because I sort of like talking about this and speculating), but I want to draw back any optimism that was in that post. It's decidedly a negative return but there's a benefit to going in to it aware and knowing what you're struggling against than not. The point I always try to make is that no matter how well you do in class, no matter how well you may perform in Big Law, there are little to no guarantees out of it. You will almost certainly not make partner. You will almost certainly be pushed out before you're a senior associate. There is no outright meritocracy. And then what comes next?boblawlob wrote:If you know you're in deep shit with loans, then realize you need to pay attention in class and study 24/7 (essentially if you are not the genius type). Don't gchat or facebook during class lectures. This won't make people sympathize with you when you complain in 3L about having no job offers.LRGhost wrote:It doesn't have to be, though. This is an incredibly good post on an incredibly good blog that I'm sure everyone here knows about, but even though it's long I hope you'll read it since it addresses the issue of 'What next?' after BigLaw.

I just spent 30 minutes reading through the post and comments. I am so terrified right now. And I actually have a good career fall back option. Still so so afraid.LRGhost wrote:This will probably be the last time I post about this in this thread (though I'll happily PM thoughts because I sort of like talking about this and speculating), but I want to draw back any optimism that was in that post. Re: Cornell c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I recently received an offer amounting to a little over 1 year of law school tuition and my mom was happy, saying that I shouldn't be afraid to take on loans to pay of for almost the other two (assuming I don't get any need-based grants). After reading the article posted a couple of posts above, it reaffirmed what I already knew. The job market sucks, and I need to stay away from loans as much as possible.
But, it also makes me annoyed at all the people who go to law school without having a strong passion for it. Don't know what to do after undergrad? Go to law school! Feel like you want a challenge? Go to law school! Can't find a job? Go to law school! Scared of entering the real world and you're looking to needlessly extend your academic career? Go to law school! Sooner or later, you get way too many lawyers and and not enough jobs. Essentially, the bubble gets too big and bursts. I'm really hoping that somehow the bad job market will lower the amount of people in law school (some signs suggest this) and it will get better.

Seriously. I am dying to get into Cornell. Not looking great for me either considering today's reserves. I'll be happy if I don't get flat-out rejected.JayJones78 wrote:+1Dmini7 wrote:o_o what type of URM? I am surprised they didn't outright accept you with those numbers... Sorry that I haven't been following the thread. Have people been getting scholarships (not by dean's invitation)? Thanks!

So I was complete since 1/2, then updated to 3/4 yesterday, no e-mail or anything. Does this mean bad news is in the mail?

You and the thousands that graduate every year without a job lined up after LS.I'm really hoping that somehow the bad job market will lower the amount of people in law school (some signs suggest this) and it will get better.

Cornell gives multiple updates no? I don't think your first review update could be anything awful.emarxnj wrote:So I was complete since 1/2, then updated to 3/4 yesterday, no e-mail or anything. Does this mean bad news is in the mail?

It's been a while since that last one, but I think this is my 3rd complete. Is there no pattern to follow for Cornell?dproduct wrote:Cornell gives multiple updates no? Oh, third complete. NVM. Retract my statement. I had three completes before I received my initial decision. Pretty surprising that 3.9 168 and 3.5 169 are getting WL.

Assuming no C and F issues or other undesirable application issues, could they be doing this because they have "over accepted" applicants and they are now waiting until the deposit deadlines so they can start going through the WL to fill out the class?dproduct wrote:Yup. There is only 200 or so seats. Possible?
Didn't a 172 get rejected a few pages back?

Re: Cornell c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
would you all recommend sending an LOCI to Cornell after getting the email that they would be reviewing our applications in the next few weeks?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
