Yeah there's so much potential ammunition you have for this question aside from saying "it's highly ranked (sort of)." talk about a better known professor, or an alum in your family, or an alum that taught at your undergrad, or a well known lawyer etc.helix23 wrote:"Influenced" is vague and ambiguous. Use that to your advantage.

It only says to provide names, so no discussion on the people who influenced you? Say I list relatives, or unkown people do I explain who they are?
List of people I'd like to include but won't:
Denny Crane
Alan Shore
Marshall Eriksen
Tucker Max
Ted Buckland

I really think you're putting too much thought into it. I bet that asterisk making it required on the app was an accident. How could a few names you list affect your admission chances, for good or bad? I can't imagine this being a deal breaker for any applicant.guinness1547 wrote:It only says to provide names, so no discussion on the people who influenced you? I seemed to have misplaced this question in another forum. Out of the people who sent their apps in already, did anyone receive status tracking credentials (or anything from their office for that matter) yet?
http://www.lawschool.cornell.edu/admiss ... status.cfm
Says here "If you have applied and have not yet received an email from our office after several days confirming that we have received your application, please contact our office..."
I don't want to be that guy who does so prematurely if their application acceptance is technically 9/1 (which I don't know where that date came from, since I was allowed to submit on 8/21 without any problems)

Basically that's why I haven't contacted them yet. I'm going to give them through the first week of September and if I haven't received an email by then, then I'll get in touch with them.pacifica wrote:I seemed to have misplaced this question in another forum. Also wondering. Should we put in something like "Andrew Smith, my uncle who went to Cornell Law"?guinness1547 wrote:It only says to provide names, so no discussion on the people who influenced you? Say I list relatives, or unkown people do I explain who they are?

Re: Cornell c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I actually used something similar. I'm not sure it matters unless it's somebody/something really compelling, just compose a good, concise statement that ties in yourself and why you think you'd be a good fit. This is one of the least important parts of the application. Don't dwell on it too long.Just wrote:Also wondering. I just put N/A in the Influenced you section last year and was wait listed with mediocre numbers. I think it's ok to not put anything.

Also, does Cornell send fee waivers based on individual requests? Or are they like some other schools who stick to regular searches of the candidate pool?

I think putting nothing imputes apathy, to be honest. Your results could corroborate that.masked kavana wrote:I just put N/A in the Influenced you section last year and was wait listed with mediocre numbers. I think it's ok to not put anything.

Re: Cornell c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Is it generally wise to list all relatives who attended a law school? My great-uncle went to one rather prestigious law school, and while I never knew him very well, would listing him help, hurt, or have no effect on my application?

I don't think it can ever hurt your chances even if the benefit would probably be very marginal at best.UtilityMonster wrote:Is it generally wise to list all relatives who attended a law school? Well, after totally missing the deadline for Cornell last year... >_>
Anyways I just sent out an e-mail to try to solicit a fee waiver - checking in and all that.

I wasnt influenced by anyone to apply to cornell, I simply researched about the school and felt it would be a good fit. What should I do for the Influenced question?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
