Also, apparently schools can see when you double deposit - got a call from B.C. today saying they see I made a deposit elsewhere and wondered what my plans were, I didn't commit either way. They called an hour later and increased my scholarship. Still leaning toward the greater debt incurred with Cornell - like double the debt I would have with B.C. - anybody want to tell me I'm crazy? Maybe I would get responses on the B.C. thread. ha

This. Cornell should have much better placement than B.C. everywhere except Boston itself.radar714 wrote:unless you wanna end up in boston 100%, cornell is probably the way to goquestion7 wrote:Not to give false hope but I believe the last day for deposit for those taken in off reserve on the 18th has not passed so there may still be seats. I heard they are giving 5k aid per year after you commit. So it is only 50 not 55k per year. Although tuition will probably increase over the next two years as it always does.teachmehowtoraji wrote:Accepted off of reserve yesterday and really leaning heavily towards attending

Count on it. Tuition is already up to 57K this year.jdmonkey wrote:I heard they are giving 5k aid per year after you commit. So it is only 50 not 55k per year. If you can stay on your parents' health insurance, I would recommend waiving the student insurance plan. That would save 2K a year.

Tuition is 57k this year not 55k. It will be easily over 61k when you graduate. 5k will amount to less than the interest that will accrue on the first year alone.

WTF? How does Cornell cost more than every other law school. This is Ithaca (bumfuck New York) not Manhattan/Boston/DC/LA. What the hell do they do with the money?Lavitz wrote:Count on it. Lol. I don't know. The only half-decent explanation I've ever heard was that they have to pay professors more to get them to move out there.jdmonkey wrote:WTF? Does anyone know what Cornell meant by the "confirmation of intent to enroll?" Is it same as making a deposit?

Re: Cornell c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
You e-mail them to let them know that you intend to enroll. That way they don't have to wait to see if they receive a check from you to figure out if you're enrolling or not. But it's kind of assumed that you're mailing the check ASAP. If they don't get the check within like 10 days, they've been known to rescind the offer.tlsshin wrote:Does anyone know what Cornell meant by the "confirmation of intent to enroll?" At least, that's what happened to one person.

Well, Cornell's my top choice for now, but money does matter. I was accepted to another t14 school with decent scholly offer (over 30k per year). Even if Cornell is my top choice, I wish to have an opportunity to take a look at Cornell's financial aid package before I withdraw from my current deposit school. Making a double deposit is not allowed, I guess?

Re: Cornell c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I mean, this is my understanding of it: As soon as Cornell receives the deposit, they'll notify LSAC, and then LSAC will notify the other school, so the jig will be up. Will both schools be okay with you being deposited at the other school until you receive your FA package? Probably not.tlsshin wrote:Thank you, Lavitz!

I think most people have had to wait around 2-3 weeks after acceptance to get their FA info--so after the deposit is due--and I haven't heard of anyone getting more than 5K/year.
I think you're going to have to make a decision under the assumption that you're paying sticker price. And 90K at another T-14 sounds tough to turn down. I mean you can always try to send them the other offer and see if they'll take it into consideration. They probably still won't get back to you until after the deposit is due though.
If anyone has had a different experience, feel free to correct me.

Thanks again! Does it really take that long time to figure out how much I would get from Cornell?Lavitz wrote:I mean, this is my understanding of it: As soon as Cornell receives the deposit, they'll notify LSAC, and then LSAC will notify the other school, so the jig will be up. It's so sad that even after I got into my top choice, I will not even be able to have an enough time to make a fully informed decision. This's too cruel.
