I am an ED applicant, my recommenders got the generic thank you email today too. My status checker is still stuck on Oct 1. 3 weeks for me will be Monday the 22nd which is when they have to notify me by.

Anyone know if last year there was any correlation between recommenders receiving an email and getting decisions?!

Edit: Also, is there a difference in the size of the initial letter if we are accepted or rejected?

I have actually heard the acceptance is a really small letter. Is somebody up for the task of digging through last years thread to see on the correlation of thank you to recommenders and decisions? I am at work so I might not be the man for the job :)

Just spent a few minutes doing that but came up with nothing. I have class in a sec or I would keep looking.

I'll do it, I have a class that I am planning on not paying attention in.

After a cursory glance at last year's thread, applicants who were both wait listed and admitted noted their recommenders received thank you notes from Georgetown (sample size: 3, 2 admit 1 wait list). So I think it's safe to say this has no indication of a decision. And the one guy who was wait listed didn't get his decision until February this year. I'd say the letters mean little to nothing.

Thanks for the research! With an optimistic spin, the guy who was waitlisted was probably not decided on because he was tough decision for them (hence the waitlist) and so they wanted to compare him with other applicants more.

If we can confirm that only people who are accepted/waitlisted get recommender emails, that will make me feel great.

I will be updating this according to application year, so please check back as I sort through data:

2011-2012 Cycle:

5 TLS users reported letters sent to LOR writers:

3 - Admit
1 - WL (later withdrawn)
1 - Unknown, although posts suggest this person was accepted. User also received an invitation to interview.

I guess for you and I it might be relevant since were ED but any idea on the timeframe for the decisions after the recommender email.

For the sake of posterity (when Georgetown c/o 2017 Applicants go searching), at least one of my recommenders received the 'thank you' e-mail.

This is dumb. They don't send thank you letters only to people who get in. Give me a freaking break.

My recommender received a thank you last cycle and I was dinged, no waitlist.

Huge question: what about the group interview? I remember signing up for it on the local LSAC Forum I was at, but I don't remember when it is. Does anyone have the 411 of the logistics of the thing?

Status date updated to 10/11/12 today. Looks like there was a pattern of updates last year with date 1 being complete, date 2 being either an under review or decision made, and date 3 being when they mailed it out. Hopefully my decision is made and my decision is coming soon! Anybody else have a new date?
