Just got one too. Thought it was funny that finalist was in quotes too. Not sure how much more they can learn about me in a 150 word essay though.xjustyoursmile wrote:I got it too! I'm so excited. I didn't. Although I got the "we got your email and will be back in touch by Feb 15th" email a day after you did I believe. Btw I think it is kind of lame that they are making people jump through all these hoops but if it means money then bring it.moneyball026 wrote:Just got an email that I'm a "finalist" (they put it in quotes too, for some reason) for merit aid. Is the invite as a finalist a necessary condition for receiving merit aid, or do some get to skip it and just get the cash?

Next one will be for "final finalists" which will ask you to write about your most interesting success story in three words.trobriander wrote:Just got one too. Eh, that's okay. Probably wouldn't have fulfilled my "ethical obligation" to pay them back someday anyways.djwjddl wrote:hhahahaha i really hope so, but doesn't seem likely.dsn32 wrote:Is the invite as a finalist a necessary condition for receiving merit aid, or do some get to skip it and just get the cash?

did everyone who got the "finalist" e-mail also get the first e-mail saying that you are now being considered for merit aid and the email that followed, which said that they'll let you know something regarding that aid at the latest by Feb. 15?

I'd wait a little more if I were you. It's too early to tell (even if I have a hunch that if you don't get the email in the next week, you probably missed the boat).Crowing wrote:hm, so if we didn't get any of those e-mails that means we already missed the merit aid boat? i don't wanna withdraw if there's still any chance of $...

Re: Georgetown c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Is this something GULC has always done, or a new process implemented this year? I thought things were set after I replied to their request for more information and "what level of funding would make a difference." Now they want a haiku in order to learn even more about me? I mean, yeah, I'll do it but it seems uninformative.

I think the essay is a formality to see who's actually interested. I doubt my "most interesting mistake" in 150 words or less is going to make or break a scholarship Lol

Called them, they essentially said my interviewer must have forgotten about me and that they would call and remind him/her and try to find me another in the coming weeks -.- who knew taking an interview would end up making the process this much longer. Ohh well, guess if I get in it will be worth it.LRGhost wrote:Call GULC tomorrow. I think they forward your information to an interviewer who is supposed to get in touch with you.

Did not get a "finalist" e-mail.

Just spitballin' here, but "finalist" may be the equivalent of "alternate" for a scholarship in previous cycles. I think it was called that. That's my theory. Those that got the previous scholarship email will hear some good news soon and those that got the finalist email are out of luck this time. But I'm probably wrong, as usual.

The good news is, in light of Gtowns self imposed Feb 15 deadline, we should know more about the significance of this email by Friday at the latest
