Doubtful. I think we will hear something by March 1st. This email serves as our "by Feb. 15th" notice IMO.jym_dawg wrote:The good news is, in light of Gtowns self imposed Feb 15 deadline, we should know more about the significance of this email by Friday at the latest

But many of us didn't receive an email asking for additional information. I think BigZuck was saying that we who did not receive the email will hear something by the 15th and that information will, in turn, give more info about the extra info email.BigZuck wrote:Doubtful. Ah yes, true. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone who responded to the initial email is a "finalist" by this time tomorrow. They seem to send emails in waves, mine has come after the first reports every time.bookside wrote:But many of us didn't receive an email asking for additional information. For those who got the "finalist" email, do you think this is the place for humor? I can't think of anything serious to properly address in 150 words. I'm planning on a light and slightly humorous "mistake" essay. Is this appropriate?

Re: Georgetown c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
After re-reading the confirmation email after I sent in my original letter asking for merit aid, I realized it said this:
"The Scholarship Committee will be meeting soon, and we will be back in touch with you with more information as soon as the Committee has met, but no later than February 15th."
This makes me feel like everyone is probably going to get a "finalist" email. Otherwise they would have said they would let us know of a decision by the 15th, not just more information. But maybe I'm just saying this because I also got a "finalist" email today and am just really hoping that doesn't mean alternate...

Should we send the answer as an attachment?
Has anyone also sent an updated resume?

Haiku.danielr wrote:Is this something GULC has always done, or a new process implemented this year? I thought things were set after I replied to their request for more information and "what level of funding would make a difference." Now they want a haiku in order to learn even more about me? I mean, yeah, I'll do it but it seems uninformative.
But yeah, I agree that it's probably to see who is interested.

Hi everyone - I just withdrew from GULC so hopefully someone can get a call that they're in a little sooner! Good luck all.

Personally I would play it safe. I agree with the others that the purpose is probably to guage interest, so the only way that you are likely to screw it up is by (a) not responding, (b) not answering the question, or (c) not taking it seriously.trobriander wrote:For those who got the "finalist" email, do you think this is the place for humor? If they are trying to get a guage of your capacity for introspection and your ability to maturely assess your shortcomings, humor might rub some readers the wrong way. On the other hand, if done really well it could address those points and also show that you don't take yourself too seriously. The choice is yours, but I see it as a high risk/low reward proposition.
Unless your topic is "applying to Georgetown." If so, win.

hey, does anyone know if Georgetown provides decent financial aid? If not, I think it's about time I withdrew and opened up a spot for someone else.

Word on the street is overall they do not. You don't sound interested, withdrawing sounds like a good idea IMO.ssanonymous wrote:hey, does anyone know if Georgetown provides decent financial aid? If not, I think it's about time I withdrew and opened up a spot for someone else.

I'll do some soul-searching (and googling) before I decide to withdraw. I'm only in at 3 schools and they're all around the same rank, so financial aid is probably the determining factor for me. Thanks for the info though!BigZuck wrote:Word on the street is overall they do not.
