Have you gotten your official financial aid offer via email yet? Even if you aren't getting merit aid, GULC will send you an email detailing the merit/need aid available to you as we'll as the loans available to you. If you haven't received this yet, then they technically haven't said "no" to you regarding merit aid yet. If I were you, I would wait to ask until I knew it was a sure no, but it's totally up to you and I'm quite certain others would feel differently.djlmjs22 wrote:I'm not competitive for a merit scholarship (reverse splitter) and I know this, but I figure there's no harm in at least asking because I really want to go to GULC. I have not gotten any merit emails that people have been talking about. Any advice on how I should go about asking, what I should say, if there's someone specifically I should ask, if calling is better than emailing....I've read about how to ask for aid in general, so I'm asking for GULC-specific advice. Thank you!

Also, even this award is not a no to merit aid. My merit offer came after this award letter. I would make sure you have all of your financial aid documents in because that can be a precursor to them evaluating you for merit aid (in some but not all cases). After you received the award from your financial documents, even if its all loans, then you should followup. But that's just my two cents.MacB wrote:Have you gotten your official financial aid offer via email yet? Anyone have luck getting off the Preferred Waitlist? WL in late Feb, did the group interview soon after and sent a LOCI recently, but other than an acknowledgement that they received the letter, haven't heard from them.

Quick question about scholarships as I've been reading through this thread - I was accepted ED with probably borderline numbers a while ago. Just received my fin aid email last week and its all loans (as expected). Would there be ANY reason to email their office asking about scholarship $$ considering I've already committed and was a borderline candidate to begin with?

If you can come up with a single legit argument for them to extend you a merit aid offer, I would do it. The worst they can do is say no and the school is too friggin big for a request like this to have any impact on your reputation, IMO.

Would you be willing to threaten to withdraw and follow up on that if not offered money?boredtodeath wrote:Quick question about scholarships as I've been reading through this thread - I was accepted ED with probably borderline numbers a while ago. I was accepted ED back in January and have borderline numbers and still received $25,000 scholarship. Not much, but its better than nothing. I would e-mail them and ask to be considered for merit aid. Don't give up hope and best of luck !!!boredtodeath wrote:Quick question about scholarships as I've been reading through this thread - I was accepted ED with probably borderline numbers a while ago. Re: Georgetown c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I'm on the regular waitlist and must admit that, from what I've learned thus far about the admissions process, that regular waitlist = "probably rejected." Given my past communication with the admissions office, I get a very bad vibe about the prospects for individuals on the regular waitlist. What is the general consensus about the regular waitlist? Can anyone report an instance in which an applicant was accepted from the regular waitlist?
On a separate though related note, I almost wish I'd been outright rejected rather than placed on the waitlist. As least the former is more conclusive whereas the latter likely has the same result (rejected) but keeps people who genuinely want to attend the Law Center in a state of flux. Law schools admissions is easily the most miserable process I've ever endured.

Nah I'm not withdrawing. And I can't think of a compelling argument aside from what would have been in my application. But as some have posted they still got scholarships when not expecting any so I don't really know what the criteria the admission office is using are.BigZuck wrote:Would you be willing to threaten to withdraw and follow up on that if not offered money?boredtodeath wrote:Quick question about scholarships as I've been reading through this thread - I was accepted ED with probably borderline numbers a while ago. I'm in the same boat. The way I interpreted it, is that there are always a couple here and there who are admitted off the regular waitlist, but it is by no means a situation where the odds are in your favor. The people who i've heard getting in also have heard in in August....

What is the significance of having your country of citizenship filled in? I've seen it referred to a number of times. Trying to read the tea leaves myself.

So far it seems having the citizenship added is a precursor to being admitted (I know this was definitely true in my case and for many others who reported in the past pages). Basically if you have the citizenship added, you deserve a 99% certain congrats!CourCour wrote:What is the significance of having your country of citizenship filled in? Re: Georgetown c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
anybody else still waiting for a decision? submitted app in early January - current status date 3/26 - application complete. Invited to group interview for April 2 - couldn't go - at school in Virginia - expected a rejection early on but now am curious why I haven't at least been waitlisted at this late date. On the off chance I get an acceptance does this late date mean I will see no money?

Similar position. Complete mid-January, just updated to third complete date 4/3 yesterday. No idea what Georgetown is thinking.
What are your numbers?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
