I originally applied to Michigan because I figured, hey why not, someone was paying for the apps and who knows. Now, Michigan has become the school I really do want to attend for a number of reasons. Would it be a good idea to send a "Why Michigan?" essay to admissions, maybe including my shift in mindset during the waiting process, and why I really do think Michigan would be ideal for me?
When did you go complete? I think that rule-of-thumb is to wait three months or until you are waitlisted. If they haven't had a chance to review yet, you don't want to come off as pushy. Do you have any accomplishments since then that you can share?
If you do submit a LOCI, I would limit it to "why I really do think Michigan would be ideal" and skip the "shift in mindset" narrative. Ideally you are the kind of applicant who does research BEFORE making decisions. Your situation isn't unusual I'm sure, but you don't want to present yourself as someone who is flaky or impulsive.
