I've been complete since mid-September.

172/3.7ish, submitted Why UVA addendum/LOCI early Jan., still absolutely zero word one way or the other. Hang in there, you're not alone.

Anyone else have an empty field in the "Term" portion of the Status Check?

:D *sigh of relief*

I guess I don't have to come to terms with the blank field being an ominous sign.

Sigh... Complete since 11/19, submitted Why UVA early Jan too, and no word whatsoever. Debating whether I should send a LOCI just to say "hey i'm still here, do you still remember me?"

Right there with you, but not as great stats. Feels weird that it's been over three months for me and haven't heard anything yet...especially because I thought I was an auto-reject (and, you appear to be an auto-admit). Weird.

simple and perhaps repeatedly answered question-- are there any financial aid forms that need to be submitted to UVA besides FAFSA/NeedAccess? thanks!

ETA: There seems to be something called UFAA to be submitted but they REALLY don't make that clear anywhere in their info.

no

really? do you know what the UFAA is then? we don't need to fill that out?

Their regular financial aid section makes no mention of the UFAA http://www.law.virginia.edu/html/prospe ... /apply.htm, but i saw the UFAA mentioned somewhere and researched and found http://www.law.virginia.edu/html/prospe ... d/ufaa.htm so now I am confused

ETA: just found someone's response in the c/o 2016 thread, UFAA does not need to be completed. In case anyones curious

bandersnatch wrote:Got this info from the financial aid office regarding the financial aid application on SIS:

The Law School does not use the University Financial Aid Application (UFAA) online web form. All you need to complete for consideration of aid is the FAFSA and Need Access. We anticipate our review process and financial aid award notifications to begin sometime in March. You will receive an email communication from the Director when your financial aid has been packaged and is available for you to view on SIS.

Hope this is helpful.

UVA's yield is around 50%. It's not necessarily the case, but is it fallacious to suppose that roughly half of the entering class comes from the wait list?

That's probably VERY generous. I have no numbers to back this up, but I would be SHOCKED if it were more than 20%, and even that is probably quite high.

yep. so the yield percentage is how many of those admitted by UVA choose to come and UVA accepts way more than they have room for. So even if the yield rate is 50%, if that resulting number still fills up the target class size, you're SOL on the waitlist. UVA itself has said on their website that the percentage of students from the actual class that come from the waitlist has ranged anywhere from none to 20%. hope that helps.

Yes, it is fallacious to assume that half of the class comes from the waitlist:

Dean Trujillo had the following to offer on the unpredictable nature of the waitlist:

We typically make at least several hundred wait list offers. In the years that I have been doing this, we have filled zero to more than 20 percent of the class via the wait list. So, literally, in some years I have made zero waitlist offers and one year I made 92. It’s crazy. You just can’t predict it and you have to be prepared.

That maximum year is still only 25%.

UVA's yield was 51% last year. But note, UVa has binding ED (for ~20% of the class) and instate preference, with 40% of slots for instaters. While the economic break for instate is only $5k, instaters often have lower average numbers. And what that means is that UVa is often the highest ranked school that the instaters get into.

50% yield from how many offers? Hypothetically, 50% yield from 600 offers for 300 seats = 0% from the waitlist.

Basically banking on that...was waitlisted last month, but praying I get in off the waitlist because they love me and I am in-state :?

...also, I just got the "when would be a good time to call" email from Dugas. Good sign? After four months of total silence, I'm not so sure.

In via email! Early Oct submission. No word on scholarship, so I'm asking for an expedited decision on that.

You just gave me some hope. 3 months of silence and counting.

Try to withhold judgment until tomorrow around noon. I'll let you know what he had to say, haha.

Honestly, I have a hard time seeing how it might be a bad sign. I doubt they're cold enough to have you call so they can reject/WL you.
