This hurts. What is going on? Have they ever before failed to finish ED decisions before the new year?

A lot of organizations have work on Monday (myself included) as it's neither a federal nor bank holiday. I bet they'll distribute a motherload of decisions then.

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Well, while trying to remain fairly anonymous, I can say that I live not far from Columbia University, so if they did mail out our rejection letters yesterday, I should be getting something in the mail today (Monday at the latest, but if they mailed on Friday it should 99.9% likely be here today), so I'll let y'all know if I get anything...

At this point, rejections seem the most likely outcome. Waiting for the ding.

I prefer to live in denial. If there is a small letter from Columbia in my mailbox I'll just tell myself "Oh wow. That must be a "Happy New Year" letter. Better leave it in there forever and never open it."

They will be closed till Wednesday at 9 AM EST. No idea how they're getting the remaining decisions out before the deadline. Sending denial letters to everyone who's left seems inefficient and frankly unlikely considering the quality and volume of applicants here and on LSN. In every other ED cycle there have been more deferrals than denials, and 170+ denials are quite rare.

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Yeah I have no clue what's going to happen but it seems to me like things are moving slowly and the answer isn't just stuff denials down people's throats. I think they are afraid where they will stand after this cycle and they are going to defer or wait list a lot of people so that if they don't get an amazing January crop of applicants they aren't left hanging. I'd say if your not accepted yet its not over and even if u don't get accepted expect to be wait listed if you have 170+
I don't think they will send out denials this early it's too risky....

If Columbia fails to give us decisions by the end of December, wouldn't the ED contract then be null and void???

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
ahhh its possible that they just have to mail out a response before then end of dec which is bad news for anyone tht hasnt received anything bec that could mean that a denial is in the mail... but this is all conjecture maybe you automatically get deferred to rd if they breach the contract....

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
When will a decision be made on my application?
Early Review applicants are notified by the end of December. All other admission decisions, including Early Review applications that were deferred to the regular cycle, are made on a rolling basis. If you have not yet heard from us, you should not worry. In most cases, decisions are made by mid- to late April. We send all admission decisions by email. Offers of admission are sent in writing also, via courier. Please make sure that you provide us with a valid email address and a physical address for the courier delivery (we do not deliver admission materials to post office boxes), and that you update that information as necessary. Many companies have put up firewalls and email messages get returned to us. Therefore, we recommend that you use a personal email account (such as Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo) or speak with your employer’s IT department to make sure that messages from Columbia Law School will not be blocked. All decisions are mailed from gls@law.columbia.edu.
so does this mean that rd also gets emails now???

That's what it seems to say.

Does this mean they don't deliver to college boxes? Has anyone received their ED materials in a college box or should I change my address to my parents'?

That's for Graduate Legal Studies, not JD admissions.
And ED applicants receive materials in the mail in February.

From the "Instructions" section of the early decsion contract, which is attached to my application: "You will be notified of Columbia's decision in December."

Interesting. What Sokomofo posted about being "generally notified in December" was taken directly off the current Early Decision section of the website, but I do remember seeing the above as well. Talk about sending mixed signals, Columbia.
I doubt they mailed the entire remaining decisions out on Friday, because I likely would have received next day as I live in the area. Possible, but unlikely. Also, I called the admissions number at 212-854-2670 and it does indeed say they won't be back in until 9:00AM on Wednesday.
If we are the first batch of ED applicants to be notified in January in all of Columbia's JD admission history...well that's a bummer :/. But I think this is the likely outcome given all of the above, and better than being rejected I suppose.

Yeah, all RD acceptances/rejections are by mail unless you're an international student. Not sure about those who aren't international but are currently abroad. I think a post from last year's thread showed they mail those out too, though it could take weeks to receive them.

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
There appear to have been two more decisions reported on LSN today: a rejection and a deferral. But those may just be people who are assuming they didn't get in because they haven't heard anything.
EDIT: Whoops, one decision was made on 12-29 and reported late and the other appears to be a mistake.
