I don't come from wealth and I'm rather debt-averse. Besides, I felt more comfortable at Cornell anyway. I think it's the right choice for me.
+1. Lavitz, I might join you there.

Sorry, guys, i went off TLS for about 2 weeks (in a sad attempt at getting a life...).
I've now forgotten pretty much everything about law school admissions:
held = okay
reserved = bad news

I think whether held is considered good or not depends on your numbers/expectations going in. For instance, I was thrilled not to be auto-dinged and to still be in the running at all.Anonymous4444 wrote:held is at best okay in my mind.... its not great either
edit: Should also add that despite some claims on TLS that Columbia doesn't YP, I have a hard time believing that given the numbers of some of the helds. I think it's far more likely that there are two sub-populations of helds. YP people that will be admitted if they submit a LOCI and/or don't WD and people who they may have liked enough not to put on reserve but who may not have numbers that will help with medians. Whether those in the latter group get accepted will likely depend on whether CLS feels secure that they will be able to maintain medians regardless of admitting some more applicants with lower numbers. As always, take everything I say with a grain of salt. This is purely speculative.

For those of us in the latter category, I wonder if a LOCI even matters at this point. They're more than likely going to put all of us on Reserve any day now.Audeamus wrote:I think whether held is considered good or not depends on your numbers/expectations going in. Any day now seems a bit premature given that the hold email says we will hear by April 26.02889 wrote:For those of us in the latter category, I wonder if a LOCI even matters at this point. Maybe. But if the 3.8/178's of the world are already getting put on Reserve, I don't see why they would wait until April 26 for the 3.7/170. Either way, CLS has fallen off my radar, but I have no optimism.Audeamus wrote:Any day now seems a bit premature given that the hold email says we will hear by April 26.02889 wrote:For those of us in the latter category, I wonder if a LOCI even matters at this point. Wait...did I totally miss something? People who were held in the past month have already been moved to reserve?02889 wrote: Maybe. Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I don't think so. I believe all Reserves through now have skipped over the Hold phase. But my point is if they're already Reserving people with significantly higher numbers than mine, I don't see why they'd keep me on hold for another month and a half, unless it's because they just legitimately forgot about me until then.Audeamus wrote:Wait...did I totally miss something? I guess that's one way to look at it. I'm choosing to be more optimistic.02889 wrote:I don't think so. I believe all Reserves through now have skipped over the Hold phase. Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I think this means they liked you enough to think 'we should keep this guy, he's definitely in if the medians alow it'. For those with high numbers that went straight to reserve, there is definitely something that had a 'warning' sign. One can only guess what that could be though.02889 wrote:I don't think so. Longtime lurker here. I know the wait can get frustrating, but don't give up!
Complete 2/1
Accepted 3/12 via Admitted Student Handbook (priority mail)
3.5, 175 (retake)
Non-URM
Top 25, California
Average softs
Strong PS and Recs
My numbers are relatively unimpressive, so this should give those still waiting some hope. Best of luck to you all.

Forgive me. Am I correct in thinking Columbia doesn't give non-Butler/Hamilton merit? That it is all need beyond that?

What I've gleaned is that they call it need, but in reality it's a combo.wert3813 wrote:Forgive me. Am I correct in thinking Columbia doesn't give non-Butler/Hamilton merit? That it is all need beyond that?
