Probably not for a while, sadly.az21833 wrote:When does non named aid come out?
As far as I know, there's no explicit merit aid beyond the Butlers and Hamiltons. The financial aid deadline for need-based grants isn't until March 1, so they probably won't start processing until after that. I'd guess mid-March at the soonest, maybe later...

Only 65 people on their fbook group...can we assume that some admitted people didn't want to join the fb group (cuz they're in at HYS)? And don't they take around 300 students/year?helix23 wrote:Yep https://www.facebook.com/groups/436394923104544/dukie4 wrote:Is their a facebook?
I guess what I'm trying to ask if: Is there hope for us Held applicants? And, how many can we expect to be on Hold anyhow? I'd say approx. 1000.

But now I fully expect to be one of the forgotten. And I'm sure that when Columbia notices my app is still pending in August, they will react like this.

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
There's not much point in speculating about this. We have no idea what percentage of admits are in the fb group (I very much doubt it's the majority). Also idk what you mean by CLS taking around 300 students a year; I think they typically have around 400 matriculants (though they cut their class last year to like 360ish iirc). But that's also meaningless because matriculants =/= admits.shakespeare wrote:Only 65 people on their fbook group...can we assume that some admitted people didn't want to join the fb group (cuz they're in at HYS)? I can't even begin to guess how many people are held (there's just no data to even ballpark this) but it's pretty clear from previous years that CLS holds and reserves an assload of people and very few of them end up getting accepted. Idk why but CLS (and NYU too) pretty much never ding people above a certain number threshold even if there's no way they'll ever admit them short of all their current admits suddenly dying in a fire or something.

I can at least confirm that not all admitted students join the Facebook group--I wasn't even aware that there was a Facebook group until I saw the most recent post about it. Facebook groups are likely only a reliable indicator of admits when it's run by an admissions office that makes an active effort to reach out and invite the admits, I think (which CLS clearly does not do).shakespeare wrote:Only 65 people on their fbook group...can we assume that some admitted people didn't want to join the fb group (cuz they're in at HYS)? That awkward moment when you stalk the facebook page, despite not having heard a damn thing from Columbia, only to realize your boyfriend is mutual friends with someone in the class....

This is precisely why I don't want my Facebook identity to embrace my future law school friends. The Facebook page was created by students. The Admissions office has nothing to do with it.clouded.memory wrote:+1. That said, please do join if you got accepted. It's a good place to run questions by any of the other admits among other things.

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Just got the hold email from Columbia (168 LSAT 3.94 GPA). I need to submit an update to my application; does anyone know where to email that?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Basically an automatic ding, should I send in a LOCI? Would it help keep me from auto-reject? Or is it too late to add info to an application?

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
In yesterday by mail, after a decent wait having sent in mid-November, complete early December.
Big splitter here - good luck everyone - there's totally hope. With my 3.3 I can't imagine I'd have gotten in during a year with more applicants. Floors are a bit lower this year, though I still imagine Harvard is something of a stretch for a guy like me.

Also, any reverse splitters getting lucky with Columbia?? Seems like they're taking splitters so long as they have above median GPA, and they don't really care for their GPA median. I was held with a 171/3.9 - solid numbers, but below median LSAT. I was hoping my GPA would do it, but nope.

The reason splitters fare better than reverse-splitters (like yourself) is because there's a near infinite number of reverse-splitters but fewer regular splitters to choose from.

yea I saw that last year, most people who got in with my numbers were ivy or other top undergraduates.
