Looks like we have opposite tastes then. My list would go IX > X > VII > VIII > XII > X-2

FFXI is obviously a completely different category, but that's what I was playing while everyone else here was playing WoW.
bosmer88 wrote:I am killing time with games as well. I beat FXIII-2 the other day. I *love* FFX. It is by far my favorite in the series. The ending almost makes me want to cry. I am going to start a new character in skyrim while awaiting decisions. I am also looking forward to the DLCs for the game (about damn time). Looking forward to 50% off on the dlc, but knowing Bethesda, I hope the dlc actually works :? .
Cool. I've never played anything past XII because I "stopped" gaming a while ago. I'm just replaying X, IX and Legend of Dragoon before law school.

That game could definitely use some modernization. RPGs are really easy to view through rose-tinted goggles, but dated FPSes are really bad... I remember trying to play Goldeneye again at some point during UG and I couldn't stand it. E.g. what do you mean I can't aim and walk at the same time???
Also the regeneration points are like the same six in the same pattern. On complex you can basically kill someone and sprint to the spot they are going to regenerate in and kill them again.

I love this video game discussion. It's my secret goal to one day own a video game/ board game store.

So, even though this is a little bit of a non-sequitur, I have to say Dark Souls. Best game ever. Ever. Also, great preparation for law school. From the Wikipedia page:

"There is real beauty in Dark Souls. It reveals that life is more suffering than pleasure, more failure than success, and that even the momentary relief of achievement is wiped away by new levels of difficulty. It is also a testament to our persistence in the face of that suffering, and it offers the comfort of a community of other players all stuck in the same hellish quagmire."

Highly recomenned.

You can ski past it for a while, but it will eventually catch you. I think theoretically if you skied perfectly you could outrun it forever though.

Also surprised with all the Goldeneye talk no one brought up the slightly superior Perfect Dark, which is probably my favorite game ever :)

Did you stop gaming due to school or new interests Lavitz? I have a personal rule of not playing games when I'm in school. I wonder how this will work during law school... Summers seem busy in law school and I wonder if I will have the time.

I personally wasn't a fan of XII, I never cared much for the story or the characters. I found the game to be pretty bland. The game mechanics were pretty fun though. I have thought about starting a new game for x, but I noticed that the game displays pretty poorly on my tv. I get a bit peeved, since the graphics in the game, especially the fmvs, are pretty nice.

Does anyone have a super-old PC? There are some versions floating around the internet but I'm not sure I trust them.

I'm getting all the video gaming out now before law school. I know afterwards my 360 will just become an expensive DVD player on its best day.

I think I'm one of the few people on the planet that likes FFVIII better than VII. IX is my favorite, but i've only played I, and VII-XI. Of those, my ranking is IX, X, VIII, VII, I. XI you can't really rank with the rest.

It was actually after graduation that I made the conscious decision to stop playing. I just felt I should be doing more productive things with my time.

And I wasn't a fan of XII either for the same reasons. Also, as someone who played FFXI for a good three years, the real-time battles were nothing new to me, so that weakened its appeal.

Glad to see I'm not the only person here who played XI and whose favorite is IX.

I cannot believe nobody mentioned Dragon Warrior Monsters (or any Dragon Warrior Games). They're old but oh-so-great. I recently found the gameboy cartridge under a radiator in my house and it worked like a charm (the game and the radiator). Such great games and the new ones are pretty good too.

Also, Golden Sun is spectacular

That game is mysteriously and infuriatingly addicting.

I loved DWM. I played the shit out of it when I was like 11 and got it right before making an international trip. I'm surprised you have a working cartridge though - I remember hearing something a while back how all GB games were gonna no longer work or something due to the internal batteries in the cartridges dying after 10 years or w/e.

Now I miss original Nintendo, complete with plastic gun to shoot ducks and clay pigeons. Plus the derpy dog.

This discussion is making me want to attend Columbia... I cannot believe how many 1337 gamers are on this thread.

I will say this: Nintendo Wii is a piece of shit, but GameCube was actually gud.

Games that are gud that I have played recently:

Witcher 2
Batman: Arkham City
Halo 4
Braid
Skyrim (although I actually liked Oblivion better)

Yeah, depressing to think about video games playing a smaller role in my life. So many memories. I feel like I wouldn't even have succeeded this much without them, odd as that sounds.

Guys, honestly? If any of you end up going to Columbia, if you're down for a game of Mario Kart/Super Smash Bros./anything at all, consider it done. I know hardcore gaming's anything but positive in law school, but I think we can all make time for a round or two of this on occasion.

If there's anything that can build up and tear apart a friendship in seconds, it's Mario Kart followed by a blue shell. But it's still fantastic

It's amazing that I have been lurking on this thread for months and the only thing that drew me out was an N64 reference. Anyway if I end up going to Columbia I challenge anyone to a game of smash. No hearts no hammers of course.

No items 5-stock Final Destination.

I was my high school and college champion of N64 Smash but I never got into as into Melee or Brawl (I know Melee is the real competitive shit).

I don't like Melee all that much.

But I will play anyone in Smash. I'm always Link. Hookshot FTW!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
