Nah man, the "holds" are for people they want to offer the Hamilton to, but they ran of of Hamiltons. They'll give it to us after those folks get into Yale.BigZuck wrote:Hold=pre-waitlist which turns into waitlist which=rejection.

I like this theory. Today's happy thought: thinking that Columbia is just trying to scrounge a Hamilton for me.TripTrip wrote:Nah man, the "holds" are for people they want to offer the Hamilton to, but they ran of of Hamiltons. Got a Hold e-mail this morning as well. I'm gathering this essentially means WL and that the chances of coming off the wait list at Columbia are not great... YAY, MORE GREAT NEWS!

I don't know about that. Columbia has been unnecessarily picky this cycle. They will (may) lose a lot of admits to HYS.Omnivalc wrote:Got a Hold e-mail this morning as well. there is something wrong with your cycle, no offense. do you have C&F issues?Omnivalc wrote:Got a Hold e-mail this morning as well. I'm gathering this essentially means WL and that the chances of coming off the wait list at Columbia are not great... YAY, MORE GREAT NEWS!

Obviously you must be thinking about this constantly, but do you know what's going on with your application cycle? I feel like if you have the option, applying again next year with all new essays and a slightly changed resume could help a ton, unless it's a C&F issue holding you back.Omnivalc wrote:Got a Hold e-mail this morning as well. Hopefully Columbia ends up working out for you!

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
I glanced briefly at the numbers and it looks like there are ~170 acceptances on LSN this year, as opposed to ~230 last year. When you consider that LSN represents 10-15% of the applicant pool then Columbia either has very different yield expectations for this year or has at least another big wave or two of admits left. The decision date graph also shows a decent-sized (10ish) wave of admits the week before the WL wave so there's also that to give us some hope.edamame wrote:I don't know about that. The hold e-mail said that they are trying to fill a class of 365 people....that's significantly lower than past years, no? LSN says that 404 people matriculated last year.edamame wrote:I don't know about that. Columbia has been unnecessarily picky this cycle. You sure you want to go to law school? I think the rap battle job market is booming (or doing as well as the legal job market, anyway) and you've got some serious talent.jselson wrote:I'm Omnivalc, and I'd like to say,

Reserve email today as well. 174/3.2
From LSN it looks like they waitlist 100-200 people and 7+ eventually get in (I'm assuming some people just update to "Accepted" rather than "WL, Accepted" so it's hard to get an accurate count). Does anyone have more information on approximately how many people from the waitlist eventually get in? What are my chances as a splitter?
My specific conundrum is that one of the programs I've been admitted to has a summer start so I'd start before I hear back from Columbia ... does anyone know what the process is for such a situation? My concern is that if you start at 1 school, it is then an issue to switch because you are no longer a 0L (on the application you are asked if you've ever attended law school before, and the answer is now yes).
