I haven't personally told them anything! I figured they'd find out on their own. I've withdrawn from all but one so far, and I may have done it already, I just haven't gotten an email response from that admissions department yet (Duke).
Just waiting on that mail packet now for my next interaction with CLS.

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Hey everybody, I am checking in because I'm about to send a last-minute app to CLS and hope I can ride the waitlist because I'm assuming NYU is rejecting/WL-ing me and I don't want to leave the city (long story short). Did anyone submit why columbia essays? Is that frowned upon? I know writing a "Why X?" for a t6 is kind of silly but I went there for undergrad so I feel like I have stuff to say beyond "CLS is a really good law school!" Please advise. Thanks.

Hey francesfarmer, I wrote a supplementary essay and worked "Why Columbia" into it. I submitted an essay even though I'm not URM (I lived overseas for most of my childhood and my essay describes that, and then talks about why I want to go into law and Why Columbia). I think it's a good idea to write the supplementary essay because it shows you put in the extra effort and did your research on the school. Either way, it won't hurt you!

The thing is I already have a diversity statement and a work experience addendum... is it too much if I add another page and I have 2.25 pages of supplemental materials?Sampaguita21 wrote:Hey francesfarmer, I wrote a supplementary essay and worked "Why Columbia" into it. feel like it's really hard to provide definitive answers to these types of questions, but based on the other supplemental essays you're planning to include thus far I'm inclined to provide you with a fairly well known adcom quote:francesfarmer wrote:The thing is I already have a diversity statement and a work experience addendum... is it too much if I add another page and I have 2.25 pages of supplemental materials?Sampaguita21 wrote:Hey francesfarmer, I wrote a supplementary essay and worked "Why Columbia" into it. I can see that, but my work experience addendum is literally three sentences about what I did while I was unemployed for nine months after graduation, and they want a diversity statement. I guess no-go on the why columbia? I just wanna get waitlisted. I guess I can send them my why columbia as a LOCI.djwjddl wrote:feel like it's really hard to provide definitive answers to these types of questions, but based on the other supplemental essays you're planning to include thus far I'm inclined to provide you with a fairly well known adcom quote:francesfarmer wrote:The thing is I already have a diversity statement and a work experience addendum... is it too much if I add another page and I have 2.25 pages of supplemental materials?Sampaguita21 wrote:Hey francesfarmer, I wrote a supplementary essay and worked "Why Columbia" into it. Hello, my fellow depressed NYU EDer! What you just described is exactly my plan as well. If I haven't heard back anything by March, I'll probably submit a Why Columbia letter, and if I'm waitlisted, I'll submit something else in May/June.francesfarmer wrote:I can see that, but my work experience addendum is literally three sentences about what I did while I was unemployed for nine months after graduation, and they want a diversity statement. If you lived in New York I would strongly suggest that we get drunk together.

Hopefully we will be able to get drunk together plenty when we're both law students in NYC next year.francesfarmer wrote:You're so smart.02889 wrote:Hello, my fellow depressed NYU EDer! I will be a total asshole gunner living in Brooklyn and not socializing with anyone but I agree.02889 wrote:Hopefully we will be able to get drunk together plenty when we're both law students in NYC next year.francesfarmer wrote:You're so smart.02889 wrote:Hello, my fellow depressed NYU EDer! Hey, just a heads up, I wrote a "Why Columbia?" as well as a grade addendum, and was accepted (although no diversity statement). I don't think it would hurt your case, at the very least.francesfarmer wrote:I can see that, but my work experience addendum is literally three sentences about what I did while I was unemployed for nine months after graduation, and they want a diversity statement. Still waiting. How many EDs do they admit on average?

I'm still here in the trenches with you all.
For whatever it's worth, I talked to a Columbia admissions representative in October who said they admit about 20-30 ED applicants each year.

I submitted without the extra statement. I'll save those nuggets of wisdom for my LOCI, nonexistent god willing.joedf wrote: Hey, just a heads up, I wrote a "Why Columbia?" as well as a grade addendum, and was accepted (although no diversity statement).
