my b - I have been at work since 7 am this morning (and was here until 11 pm last night) and my office air control unit is broken, so my office is 77 degrees. these two factors combined have made my brain sluggish.Crowing wrote:Not yelling at you specifically but people have literally asked this on every single pageT20hopeful89 wrote: I am confused about what the difference between reserve and hold is. I was reserved (I am an auto-ding) and it seems from the letter they sent that we get re-reviewed in april/may. Do holds get re-reviewed in march?
Reserve = WL, will be reevaluated for further cuts in May
Hold = no decision, will get admit/reserve/ding by 4/26
Also, two of my friends were accepted from the reserve/WL back in 2011/2012 cycle -- and that one was a WAY tougher/less weird cycle than this one seems to be. Not that I expect to get in, but others who have high numbers might have a shot.

mine did. sounds fluffy.J_stack wrote:Did everyone's hold email have this paragraph in it?
While we cannot speculate as to the final outcome of your candidacy, we wish to inform you that yours is one of a select group of applicants placed on Hold and that you will be given every possible consideration as the season continues.

The more data we have, the better an idea we get of how they're using Hold and Reserve this year, folks.

It's funny not because the person doesn't know the rank... it's funny because top 400 includes basically everything.... Might as well have written "public." It's like giving no info at all. I thought it was a joke initially, which is why I laughed.toothbrush wrote:lol @ people knowing the rank of their school

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Does it put somebody who was Held at a distinct disadvantage to not write a LOCI?
In other words, if I feel I've already said all I have to say in my original application and I think that my "continued interest" may already be implied by the fact that I've already attended Columbia once (for grad school), does it hurt to just sit it out and wait? Will I be looked at negatively by the adcom compared with everyone else who is sending in LOCI's?

Nah I get it but I think it's equally amusing that people know that they're top 50 or top 10. Who the fuck knows / cares about that ?abcde12345 wrote:It's funny not because the person doesn't know the rank... it's funny because top 400 includes basically everything.... Investment banks, teach for america, consulting firms, rhodes scholarships, apparently Yale, looking at their FB group. College degree = social capital. It is nice, however, that law schools don't care for the most part, because of grade inflation.toothbrush wrote:Nah I get it but I think it's equally amusing that people know that they're top 50 or top 10. Pretty much every job out there. At least the top 20 or so, maybe not in exact order but all big firms/companies (as pointed out above) have a general sense of the top undergrads. I mean, it's not much different from law school rankings. People know.toothbrush wrote:Nah I get it but I think it's equally amusing that people know that they're top 50 or top 10. Columbia's actions just seem weird to me. I fee like most of its first round picks will likely decline in favor of attending HYS. And a lot of those held will probably get into one of HYS.

Re: Columbia c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013)
Does Columbia actually award any grants to people applying for financial aid? Or is it pretty rare?
The application is due on Friday, and I'm having trouble getting my parents' tax-returns. Should I be stressing over this?
