I have been working a lot on it, trying to kill time while application decisions trickle in.

This table is based on logistical regression analysis of data from Law School Numbers.

Thanks elterrible78, I love people who run logistic regression to kill time (because I am one of them!)

Just to share some of my results (I only used data from last cycle, and fitted a simple logit model with 2 variables, LSAT and GPA)

Image

can you numerically rank the t14 based off your regression analysis from gpa heavy to lsat heavy?

Image

vertical axis represents probability of being accepted

conclusion: high GPA will boost your chance at Chicago, whereas high LSAT may be more useful in schools like NYU

Nice! I love seeing this stuff represented graphically. I am working on a pretty heavy duty project involving all the cycles available on LSN, and I will be looking for input and analysis in the next few days. I'm hoping to put together some kind of basic document which might help people out in future cycles, so I'm hoping you'll be interested in providing some feedback/insights.

And we may be made for Chicago, and Chicago may be made for us.

I did it already, at least for last cycle, and am working on doing it for all cycles, but I'm more than happy to send you a copy of what I had for last. PM me if you're interested.

I know I am running it close to the deadline, but I will be submitting my app soon and would like to know if it is better to submit a 2-3 page PS with an addendum 1 page diversity statement or to combine them since on the app it says " If there are particular aspects of your background (e.g., racial, ethnic, or religious identification, socioeconomic status, or sexual orientation) that you would like to highlight, please include this information in your personal statement."

The reason I am asking is because they have been two distinct topics for all my other apps and I want to know if I should spend the time to try and intertwine them or submit each as a separate thing and get it into their hands? Thank you!

Lol, I did this before deciding whether to ED Chicago or NYU (I love both schools when I visited), and then I thought, if I am using logit models to help me making decisions, I should probably go with Chicago. :D

I think it's going to be really cool if I have classmates like kappycaft1 the king of spreadsheets and you. :D

Yes, and I can make graphical representations for your output.

I think I did both a separate diversity statement and a separate Why Chicago.

Had my interview today. If anyone wants help or advice, feel free to PM me, or take a look at my post here:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=200887&start=25

Mr. Elshal wrote:Had my Chicago interview recently and boy am I glad we have this thread :D

Here's the rundown:

Preparation:
Very little because I have just returned from a 3 week trip overseas and my body clock is trying to destroy me. Basically, I looked at the questions in this thread and tried to get a general sense of which of my stories could be applied to which questions (by stories, I mean anecdotes that describe certain traits or characteristics that I'd like to convey).

I wore a full suit and did not use an external microphone.

Questions:
Won't say my interviewer's name but the conversation flowed nicely, the interviewer was really welcoming and I found it easy to speak about myself. It was very clear that nobody was trying to bite my head off or trip me up. All in all, a great experience and by no means an uncomfortable one (except when I was thinking of answers, and then I felt a little awkward).

I had 8 questions, but they were mostly the same questions as many of the other posters, so instead of posting my questions, I'm going to compile everyone's questions into one list. I think this would be more helpful (sort of like a test bank to help you prepare).

Why law?
Why law now?
Why Chicago?
What am I doing between now and law school (I was a December graduate from UG)?
Resume related questions (questions about specific items or bullet-points on your rezzy).
Have you ever had a time when you were out of your element or comfort zone?
What is your greatest accomplishment?
If you could go back in time and redo one thing in your life, what would it be?
Discuss a memorable class or moment in a class.
Why did you choose your undergrad?
What is your preferred work style?
What do you do in your free time?
How would your professors describe you?
How would your peers describe you?
How would your coworkers describe you?
Do you have any questions for me?

Hopefully this will help other people prepare and achieve their dreams (wouldn't that be nice?). Good luck everyone, and please feel free to PM me if you feel you need more detail, or if you just wanna chat about interviewing in general. I am more than glad to help.

ETA if you want info about Harvard interviews, please see my post on the previous page

You did a separate diversity statement? I didn't submit one, despite having done so for the other schools, because Chicago's instructions explicitly said diversity should be discussed in the PS.

I actually wasn't sure whether I sent one to Chicago or not, so I went back to LSAC and checked -- apparently I did, along with a generic PS, and a Why Chicago. I guess they're not as strict about that as they are about late additions to the application.

If it's a compelling statement, it should still help. If it's not, it still shouldn't really hurt you.

I don't think so. I was admitted as part of the 1/23 batch.

FWIW I sent mine in before going complete and I didn't hear back from them until after I'd gone complete (3 weeks after I'd emailed them). They eventually responded saying they added my DS to my file. Might be worth trying, even though I think somewhere on the status checker it says that, after your file goes complete, you shouldn't send them any additional materials. I think they might've made an exception in my case since I emailed them before I went complete, but who knows...

After seeing so many superior URMs getting rejected and waitlisted on LSN, I think it's only a matter of time. Please please please make an admissions mistake. 8)

They just want to minimize extraneous material they get. It's all only marginally useful for your chances at admission anyway.

Chicago has to know they are wayyyyy slower than pretty much everyone else. Except Stanford, mybae, but then again Stanford doesn't interview. They don't seem bothered though. Complete 12/5 and I'm still not under review.

So, since I haven't PW'ed before, I figure this is the perfect time since I'm all up in these fancy clothes (ETA: the relevance is that this is me getting ready for my interview tomorrow)

Since I normally don't dress nicely, I'd appreciate any input. (I know I'm not as pretty as most of you - but focus on the outfit! and the hair... I've never used hairgel before  )

(removed - thanks so much for the input, everyone!)

I'm a woman, but if you have a more subtle tie I would suggest using that just because I would want the interviewer entirely focused on you. Besides that though I think you look very professional. Good luck!!!:)

LSATSCORES,

Never button the bottom button on a suit. Remember to unbutton the suit if you sit down. I would definitely lighten up on the tie. Big bold stripes are kind of a power statement, and you want to appear friendly and welcoming, not as if you were in a position of power. I would maybe lighten it up on the hair gel. You don't want to look like you just flew a leer jet to the interview. Remember, the most important thing is to be calm, personable, and confident. Also, make sure your shoes are shined and match your belt.

Goodluck!
