Medianish gpa, LSAT that is not doing them any favors. Was joking, just don't want to lock myself into paying 300K for a school because I am an old and a poor. NYU would be awesome though!

You'll get in somewhere great, especially with your softs and time out of undergrad.

Its ok, everybody on the internet thinks I'm an idiot for ED-ing but I agonized over it for months and I feel alright about the debt now, especially since I'll be able to keep my COL way below what NYU alots.

I'm trying to prepare myself for afternoons that looks something like this:

1) See that people on TLS had their statuses updated to DLS
2) Race to look at status checker
3) Panic when it still says "Under Review"
4) Repeat daily until I receive an email saying I've been deferred, since accepting someone below both medians makes no sense for them to do until July after months and months of shameless begging on my part.

(edit - lol, counting)

I don't think you're an idiot. You're unlikely to get much money at any other T14's. If NYU is where you wanna go then that's that.

Btw how are you keeping COL down? Living at home?

I'm getting a few hundred dollars a month from my family and beyond that I have several years of experience at living in NYC with a very low income. And I'm gonna stop shopping and smoking cigarettes.

Aren't cigarettes in NY like 15 bucks a pack?

$12. I don't smoke that much and I get cartons from friends who travel out of the state/country pretty regularly so its not that bad for me...

Aside from not smoking or shopping, any other bits of advice for keeping COL down as much as possible in NYC?

Using "old" and "poor" as singular nouns. So much win.

My biggest piece of advice is this: SUBLET. Sublets are so much cheaper than signing a lease because real estate developers in the city are fucking assholes and they jack the prices up in any building they can get their hands on and renovate. For example: a friend of mine signed a lease for a two bedroom apartment three blocks from my apartment in an up-and-coming neighborhood in Brooklyn and he and his roommate each pay $1200 a piece. I live in a cockroach-free, large 3-bedroom and I pay $700. We are equidistant from the subway.

Other than that, sneak bottles of booze into bars and then top-off your free soda with cheap whiskey? I don't know. Don't take cabs.

This will, perhaps, be the most difficult part of law school for me. I have worked full time since high school and I have made really good money. I purchased two $40k sports cars before my nineteenth birthday and could always buy pretty much anything I wanted. Unfortunately, I did spend most of what I earned and although I have a pretty solid savings, it's nowhere near enough to cover tuition and COL. Transitioning from a fairly lucrative lifestyle to being a poor college student for the first time ain't going to be easy.

So do you move every six months or so? That would be my biggest concern about subletting as most are short term and the original lessee is unlikely to continue to eat the difference for a long period. If you factor in the costs and stresses of moving, for me, it may not be worth it.

Is NYU's site down for anyone else?

EDIT: Just the law school site. I want to interpret this somehow to mean they're about to announce acceptances. Someone help.

I did move around a lot for a while but that was my own choice--and it was about $80-100 total each time for the U-Haul. A lot of my friends sublet and its easy to find somewhere to rent for like, 9 months to a year at a time. Also, in NY, most people don't "eat the difference," they overcharge their subletters because rent is constantly going up.

Edit: also, you're going to have to move once a year probably anyway, unless you get a 2-year lease, which means you have to pay a broker's fee, which is a lot of money.

DAMN IT I was sending an email because I needed to give them my permanent resident number and the ONE TIME it's actually something important the email somehow sent itself before 1. I could actually write the number and 2. I spellchecked.

I HATE MY COMPUTER.
WHY.
