Yes, Penn is notorious for YPing high-LSAT splitters.

Is it really YP though? For the evidence to support that there would have to be data to suggest that weaker candidates have a better chance. I don't know if that's the case - Penn seems rather selective possibly due to the small class size compared to its peers and doesn't seem to really like RD splitters in general.

A lot of this WLs don't even look like splitters. Look at these WL numbers from 2011-2012:

177 3.86
177 3.89
177 3.83
177 3.81
177 3.76
177 3.8
176 3.81
176 3.89
176 3.73
176 3.73
175 3.97
175 3.75
175 3.81
174 3.83
174 3.86
etc...

Check out this graph: http://mylsn.info/graph.php?school=penn

There's clearly this little hole that Penn likes to accept from, with an area both above and below it that they waitlist/reject.

Is there any way to separate the ED from that though? Penn gives a huge ED boost and my sense is that lower number applicants tend to ED a lot more. Penn RD is not really a true lock for anyone.

I just logged into the status checker for the first time in weeks and found that I am UCR 11/1.

Also, it looks like the status checker finally updated to clear last year's cycle. I stopped checking it because I would get heart attacks every time I logged in upon seeing "Application Denied." Even when I knew it was coming it still had momentary impact :P

Penn ED is really good for splitters, not so much for reverse-splitters. 3.3+ and 170+ and you're in (look at LSN; 99% of people with those stats are in). Slightly lower GPA may work with a 175+ or so. Wouldn't bother EDing as a reverse splitter or even with a 168/169.

yikes - yeah penn seems to know what they want and doesn't seem to want to deviate from that. hoping to be WLed and not outright rejected

Checking in! Submitted tonight. It is a long shot but I had a fee waiver and I would love to attend.

Good luck everyone!

Is this the first year Penn has done this two-phase Binding ED? Think it's possible to RD and then change to ED come first week of January after already having heard back from a couple of schools in December?

+1 for "hole theory."

Hey guys! I'm looking for some advice as far as Penn is concerned. I have a 3.9 from a top 20 school and a pretty unconventional path to my degree. I'm already in at a t-14 but Penn is my first choice.

Yeah depending on your score though, I wouldn't ED - you'd be leaving some money on the table with 170/3.9

Checking in. Applied last night with fee waiver. LSAT is around median, GPA is above, so I might have a decent shot. Didn't write any extra stuff.

Checking in, too. I ED'd last week as a reverse splitter.

I looked on mylsn and it looks like I'm probably going to get YP'd...

I hate YP.

Maybe not, because of your not too high GPA. Or write a good "Why Penn" if you really want to go there.
