Don't let me rain on any parades though.

I'm not familiar with all the lingo... what are YP and soft rejections? I assume these are different "types" of wait-lists. I was wait-listed today with 164/3.97. Which would I probably fall under?

Were you Regular Decision?

Yes. I applied in September but retook the LSAT in October. (And didn't improve, which probably doesn't help me...)

YP stands for Yield Protection. The idea is that USNWR rankings factor in the percentage of students who are accepted that attend, so they try not to accept people with numbers that are so high that they're likely to get in to a better school (and thus not attend). Look at this graph of American University (probably the worst school for yield protection...) --LinkRemoved-- - you'll notice that if your LSAT score is too high, you're extremely unlikely to be accepted.

Unless you're a URM, you're more likely to be a "soft rejection" than a YP, but I don't think that would even apply to you. If they need to bring their GPA median up, you're a good candidate to go to, so they could have you there as a real contender

Wait-listed today and I feel the same way - at 164/3.97 (and I retook the LSAT and didn't improve the second time, which I think really hurt me) I'm pretty glad not to have been rejected. I LOVE Penn so I'll be waiting it out as well!

No worries, there is definitely hope, I got in with a 3.91/165.

I think my LSAT score probably gives them a realistic idea that I'm not an exceptional candidate for higher ranked schools (so far I've been postponed to Feb or wait-listed at the few I tried for). So they probably aren't worried I will go elsewhere. However, your explanation tells me that my wait-list is probably a rejection since I'm not a URM. That's another thing I was trying to figure out.

Thanks for the explanation!

More on topic, what does "soft rejection" mean?

I think they're using to mean someone who is very unlikely to be admitted... but I don't think that's a thing like YP is a thing. Could be wrong, though.

seems like Held for further review is different than WL. They say no decision has been rendered. So, time to show Penn the love.

It took me a solid three weeks to go complete even though everything was ready when I submitted then it took another month to go under review (which finally happened yesterday)

UCR2 12/17... still waiting... thought today would be the day! Today is not a great day so finding out (good or bad news) would be really nice so I don't have to wonder anymore :P

Have any ED2 kids had a UR2 date yet? I know we had some acceptances already but it looks like they had both reads on one day, so I was wondering if that's the norm for ED2.

Thanks!

ED2 here. UCR1 was yesterday (1/10) and the date changed to 1/11 on the status checker today so I am assuming that makes me UCR2.

I went from UCR on 1/7 to UCR on 1/9 so same for me I guess.
