I am not sure why you would try to use CCN as leverage when Berkeley offers matching scholarships for any of the T14 (minus Northwestern). It seems like it would be a lot easier to get Cornell, for example, to give you $$$ than it would be to get Columbia to cough up some merit-based aid.

I've heard randomly across the boards that B would be more likely to match CCN than lower T14s if they start to run out of $/it's later in the cycle. Obviously anecdotal but you never know. I had fee waivers anyway. I just don't know it would be worth it to move to NYC, where I've never even visited, for 3 years and then hope to get back. Plus my parents are in CA so I could get a dog and just drive him/her home on breaks (: I have thought this out waaaaaay too much....

Yukos wrote:Just want to say this discussion has been really depressing for someone who's basically CA or bust but seems much more likely to get into CCN than B.

Why can't you just have NYU-style predictability, Cal??

ETA: Sorry for the pity-party, just had to get that off my chest.

Totally agree. My GPA is low for B, so I have a better shot at CCN, pretty sure. Heck, the rest of the lower T14 too. :(

TLS: Where attending Columbia Law School is an undesirable outcome.

I hear you guys though, I would be ecstatic to get accepted to Berkeley.

I'm pretty sure we're in the minority. Tons of anti-Berk trolling on this site!

Accepted today too! Super excited! I only got an email though, I'm not sure how they decide who gets what.

Congrats all new admits! I would by lying if I said I wasn't jealous.

I wonder if Berkeley sends out emails to people on the East Coast after a certain time instead of calling them. Of those of you who have been accepted, if you don't mind, would you let us know which time zone you live in and whether you were called or emailed (and if you were called, about what time it was)?
Accepted Nov. 21 between 11am and noon. East coast. Phone call.

Current situation: would you take 105k at UVA or Berkeley w/o aid?

Doesn't Berk match scholarships pretty readily?

Doesn't Berkeley match, or at least claim to match, scholarships from other T14 schools(minus NW)?

So does anyone make it off faculty review or is it just a glorified WL/deny?

According to the TLS interview, while 600+ of the 800-900 admitted are done straight through Dean Tom, about 200 a year are selected from faculty review.

Yup, I'm currently a student here because I got in via faculty review. Many of my friends got in the same way too. Don't lose hope. Seriously I was about to turn psycho by the time February rolled around because everyone on these forums last year had me convinced I was going to surely be rejected...
