In.... Lowest GPA ever admitted? I must be in the running?

If you're exactly a 3.4, you've got me beat by smidgen.

I wish I had found out about my rejection to Berkeley PRIOR to my acceptance/scholarships to UCLA/USC, rather than the other way around. Now my whole family (myself included) is feeling melancholy and upset, when really that's being a bit unfair to UCLA. Still a great school, but timing is everything.

Congrats to everyone who has been accepted.

So, in the wake of FR acceptances and rejections, what are the prospects (how soon till our dings arrive, perhaps) for those of us who haven't heard anything since November when we applied?

Does anyone know how much money Berkeley gives for ASW?

Anyone else tried to log into MyFinAid? I am able to log into various admitted student areas of Berk's website w/ my Calnet ID and passphrase, but when I try to access MyFinAid it says "student not found." Anyone else have this issue? Do you think we'll only get access to this portion of the site when a financial aid decision has been made?

FinAid doesn't go up until April, so that's why you're not seeing anything.

on another note: Dropped to number 9! :(

lol, c'mon. Your HLS and SLS should've prevented those tears. I am a little concerned about the drop even though I'd prefer Berkeley over a lot of the T-10

The drop in ranking doesn't necessarily carry any weight. Wait for the ABA data to be concerned or not.

That's what happens when you reject me. Rankings fall. It's science, and it's unavoidable.

Hopefully It means that Berk might actually match my UVA offer fully plus some for higher COA as they claim they account for 8)

yea, I'm thinking if anything the ranking drop would work in our favor as applicants seeking matching scholly's. although I highly doubt they would match UVA entirely since UVA is filthy with money haha

Does Berkeley ever exceed the competitive offer submitted through the Matching Scholarship program?

I am deciding between submitting a $50k offer from NYU and an $81k offer from Duke. Realistically, I am more likely to attend NYU than Duke, but would consider Berkeley very strongly with an offer of $65k+. If I submit NYU and it is matched but not exceeded, I haven't gotten quite enough $$, but if they exceed the offer because NYU is ranked higher, the offer could be perfect. I fear that it is less likely for Berkeley to match an offer from Duke than NYU, because Duke is ranked lower. Any opinions appreciated

I tried searching the forum for a previous answer to this question, but haven't found one.

Berkeley isn't likely to try to exceed NYU - they're very different types of schools and money should not be the deciding factor

Yea, people on TLS have been wildly unhelpful about berkeley matching scholarship. People i've PM'd have just not responded. I'm guessing its because its advice that could actually be very beneficial and there is, after all, only so much money.

Cal says on its website that you should submit the school you are most likely to attend. From what I've heard, they take that somewhat seriously -- thats why you write a little about the matching school in the optional essay. My friend last year who went to boalt submitted a Michigan offer and got it matched exactly. I submitted Michigan too since its an exact tie in ranking and I really like their programs, atmosphere, and I actually have family connections in the state and neighboring ones.

I think its extremely unlikely Cal would give you more money than your matching offer. If you handed them a Butler, they would probably still give half tuition at most. Give a convincing reason why Duke would be your top alternative, and they could match the offer. Don't just base the choice on rankings though. Honestly its an imperfect system and a difficult choice, but the one thing I know for sure is that Cal won't say "oh NYU has a higher USNWR ranking than us so we should up our bid".
