This is what I am thinking too since people with the same stats and same initial review date as me have gone under faculty review and I haven't. Ahh well...

Submitted around 11/8. Previous status date was 11/23, up until today. Hope this helps.

Yuck; in the same boat. I made it into faculty review two years ago - ended up withdrawing apps. and staying at my job - but now nothing? Oh well...

Same. Pretty sure it'll be Thursday or Friday. Yay

It will be sad, but also a relief. A ton of good applicants will fall that day. I will be proud to stand alongside all of you.

I have "Your file is complete" and an update date for today, also. I was previously under review 11/13.

Rejection is the consensus?

Are you guys just being pessimistic? or do dings typically go out a day or two after faculty review status updates?

Are you guys saying the dings are for anyone who doesnt have the faculty review header? Mine is still at Under Review 10/25, so I'm guessing that means I'm done.

It would seem likely, unless of course they're going to WL you. Although, I think UFR is a glorified hold/waitlist. Anyone know whether or not that's true?

I think "In Review" is okay; what's not okay, seemingly, is going "Complete" with a new date but no notice about faculty review...

Of course this is all a big, fun guessing game to some extent, but my motto is when in doubt, assume the worst!

When it comes it will be ugly like the tsunami in Thailand in 2004, or Fukashima in 2011. It will be like Black Tuesday in 1929, or the great flood of the Old Testament. It will be a day which will haunt nightmares until Spring of 2016, and maybe beyond...

May we all handle it with dignity, like the gentlemen dressed in top hats and tails sipping snifters of brandy as the Titanic went down.

Ok, perhaps I've gone a bit overboard. Lol.

The historical early Jan. wave of dings either never happened, or completely missed TLS and LSN. There is surely a wave of dings coming.

Sorry, I'm a little dumb. My status checker says "Your file is under review." (Status date 1/7) Is this what you all mean by faculty review?

I'm still under review since 11/21 with no faculty review or complete message. 167/3.98.

No, it will say something along the lines of "passed administrative and sent to faculty review"

Faculty Review message via status checker today--any opinion on whether I should view this as better than being WL'ed?

And to the question above, the faculty review is indicated on the checker in the header, its a step beyond review by the initial administrative committee and based on past posts it is a step where borderline admits go for additional review and only 10% are eventually admitted.

Where is the 10% figure from?

I guess that depends on whether more than 10% get off the waitlist, where you'd be on the list, and if admits from the waitlist happen chronologically.

I don't really see this as a better/worse situation. But in some ways I think faculty review is better; you still might get admitted outright, whereas I doubt much of the waitlist will ever get off of the waitlist. My logic in reaching this conclusion is akin to "under review" > "rejected" in that you still got a shot!

Probably last year's thread, loosely.

I would have to go back and peruse the pages of this thread but I recall reading it perhaps in December....

Don't know if this helps or not, but last year, some people who had submitted Nov/Oct/Dec were going under faculty review in February (FR2) instead of going under FR in January. So it's possible that some people who haven't heard anything today might still be hearing about it later on. (See pg. 94 of viewtopic.php?f=7&t=162909&start=2325)

Apparently, about 1/8 of people who are under faculty review will get in. Also, in order to be waitlisted, you first have to go under faculty review.

From the TLS interview section:

TLS: What does the admissions process consist of, and how is an application rated?

Dean Tom: “Well, all the files are read, previewed initially by me or by one of my staff. I have 4 other people who help me with the application process initially. However, I read the bulk of them. I read about two-thirds of the applicant pool, while the other 4 read the other one-third.”

TLS: Wow, busy man.

Dean Tom: “Yeah. But it’s structured this way because I know what I’m looking for. And, if my staff finds an applicant whom they want to admit, they have to bring the file to me for a final review. Concurrent to this review process we also identify about 1400 to 1600 other applications that are very competitive, and these we send to our faculty admissions committee, comprised of 6 faculty and 12 students. Students serve in an advising capacity on the committee. I admit roughly 550 people through what I call the administrative review process, and the admissions committee (the faculty committee) admits about another 200 or so. So, we end up admitting about 700 to 750 people. The admissions committee also structures a waiting list, and then everyone else is denied, either administratively or by the Committee.

This is the point at which I go back through all the prior years' graphs on LSN, looking for people with similar numbers who got rejected trying to see what got them dinged. Then I remind myself that no one's going to be like, "Additional Information: I'm a douche."

ETA: UR 12/6. Still under review without change now, if that's helpful.
