Not the same thing as what? Being a Huguenot in France in the 16th century? Being subjected to teachers drinking labeled beverages?

Are you really getting indignant about people being annoyed that they feel they can't express their views openly? Honest question, I'm really not sure what your point is.

Can we please take the political discussion out of this thread? None of us attend Berkeley Law yet, so I fail to see what actual facts can come out of this. Perhaps those of you who want to discuss what it's like to be a Republican there can start a thread in the appropriate forum asking actual Berkeley Law students what they think.

Racism. Homophobia. Sexism.

Yeah, I get that overprivileged hippie kids are obnoxious. No argument there. But conservatives whining about how the presence of hippies oppresses them comes across as equally sniveling and entitled.

Nobody is saying they're equivalents. But try having people you know accuse you of racism, homophobia, and sexism simply because you are fiscally conservative (or have any views contrary to theirs) a few dozen times and you'll find yourself feeling pretty pessimistic about the claimed open mindedness of liberals.

For what it's worth I also find underpriveleged hippies intolerable.

Why? It's more fun than "how long will I be under review?" questions every half hour.

Thanks everyone, thought to get some discussion...i guess i got that. I love the bay area. I have some family in san fran...my uncle who is a real lefty... In my book. At family things,we have great political discussions and it has never gone down to the shouting at each other. He is the one who wants me at berkley.i guess my view are
Fiscal conservative, a little more of a libertarian slant on most social issues....i am applying to USC. But i realize that most law schools will have a more liberal slant....thanks all for the input!

Wow. Almost two pages of runaway discussion regarding the markings and presence of a political slant, followed by political banter! This surely must be unprecedented on a public internet forum. :D

As far as admissions goes, I think any leadership role for a club of more substance than the "skateboarding club" bodes well for the applicant. As has been stated over and over, here and elsewhere, diversity is a goal of any adcom. My guess is a disproportionate number of far-lefties/liberals apply to Berkeley.

And fwiw, regardless of the actual political leanings of the ug or law schools and their respective student populations, my guess is many, many people picture Birkenstock wearing hippies when they hear the name "Berkeley." I think this stereotype is perpetuated over and over in popular culture. I don't offer any empirical support of this, but I also don't think it's really necessary for the purposes of this thread. Having said that, I don't think this common perception should deter anyone from going there, nor do I believe this reputation to be completely accurate. Anyhow, enough of that.

Exact same submit and UR dates. I'm right at both medians. Not giving myself much of a chance.

That would be all of us... Well, those with any remaining dregs of optimism left. Realistically we'll all get declined sometime next week and we're only logging in to see when the dings start rolling out.

People, people, don't lose hope. We are all just under faculty review. They'll notify us of that in a week or so and then we will all be part of the 10 percent or whatever that gets accepted.

EVERYONE JUST CALM DOWN THIS IS ALL GOING TO BE OKAY NO NEED TO GET OUT OF SORTS IT'S ONLT A FEW MONTHS OF CONSTANT STRESS WE ARE ALL FUTURE LAWYERS AND CAPABLE OF HANDLING IT

I've been "under review" since Nov 11, can this be a good thing?

Not amazing stats, but URM...

We have no idea. Most of us have been under review since at least then, if not farther back.

No one on LSN has posted a 2012-2013 cycle UC-B rejection yet. I'm sure they've rejected a handful of applicants but clearly not very many. It looks like they're just waiting to reject people and those of you who've been under review for several months haven't survived a round of rejections. So I wouldn't consider being under UR for the last several months to be a positive sign indicating greater likelihood of admission. (I wouldn't consider it a negative sign at all either - I think all it means is that you're not an auto-admit.) Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, but we can still tell ourselves that, right?

UR for several months without decision most likely is WL or Rejection in the end.

I'm going to assume you're correct. Looking at past UC-B graphs, it looks like they make a healthy amount of admits before slaughtering any leftover hopefuls.
