So. Berkeley doesn't specifically say that it doesn't want traffic violations, but it doesn't specifically say that it does. What do you guys think?

Was your traffic violation a misdemeanor or a felony? "1. Have you ever been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor or is any such charge now pending against you?" Seems very cut and dry.

Lets assume for a moment that I'm not a lawyer and have never been to law school.

Are minor traffic violations misdemeanors?

Checking. Still trying to figure out how to expand my PS to four pages. I really like this aspect of their app -- I think it's a great way to get a better handle on applicants -- but it's a weird change from trying to be super concise with everything...

Depends on the state. I believe there are like 3-5 states where they are.

Does anyone have any insight on the scholly situation at Cal? On LSN it looks like they offer significantly less (more accurately, they offer money to less people) than MVP or even CCN. On pure location/quality Boalt is probably my first choice after HYS it doesn't make any sense to pay $60k more to go there than, say, UChi. Do they really give out less money or am I misreading LSN?

According to their website, they will honor schollys from other t-14s except Northwestern

Boalt wrote:Many times admitted students choose to submit their most substantial scholarship offer, even if it is from a law school they have little interest in actually attending, presumably in order to trigger a larger Matching Scholarship. The reverse is also true in that admitted students send in smaller offers thinking we will be more likely to match them. Other times admitted students send in the offer from the highest-ranked school, even if it is not where they see themselves attending, presumably because they believe we will be more motivated to recruit from those schools. The fact of the matter is that the scholarship committee will make independent decisions for each application based on the strength of your materials, and not on how expensive you are or another school's ranking.

This makes it sound like it's really no sure thing to get a matching scholarship. One possibility I've been thinking about, though, is that matching scholarships are offered late in the cycle and people don't bother updating their LSN profiles that late, thus making it appear as though few get scholarships from Boalt.

I would say that it's probably true that Berkeley has less money than some top private schools to throw at applicants to woo them to the school. Boalt picks applicants who it believes will fit in the culture of the place and will be attracted to the school for a host of reasons beyond the rankings. You'll see that Berkeley's yield rate is very good i.e. many of the applicants that are accepted choose to come. That said, Berkeley DOES give out money, both need-based and merit-based. The matching scholarships tend to come in later in the cycle. They are no sure thing but they can be sizable. People also receive money outside the matching program. For instance, I got merit $$ without a matching request. The last two years, admitted students had an opportunity to send an additional letter via the website to express interest in scholarships. So I would say don't discount money at Berkeley but hedge your bets by applying broadly to hopefully use scholarships from other top schools to negotiate a scholarship from Berkeley.

Naw, he's not a 3.1/155 who says he's going to go to a TTT so he can finish in the top 10% and transfer to a T-14.

I'm not entirely sure if people a) don't get my humor, or b) just don't like it. Regardless, I seem to have a difficult time making cyber-friends.

I think it's more of a "don't like it" kind of thing. This is an anonymous message board about law schools. Stop being so obnoxious. You are also not special, just another faceless poster. There is no need for you to talk about yourself so much.
