For admitted students: any idea when finaid packages should come out?

On the admitted student site's "checklist" page, they talk about financial aid packages under the May-June section, so I think it will be a while still. Regarding scholarships, they say, "The scholarship committee is currently determining scholarship awards and will notify recipients directly by e-mail. Once a determination is made, the scholarship award will then be added to the recipient's financial aid offer."ssanonymous wrote:For admitted students: any idea when finaid packages should come out?
Dunno if that gives you any more info than you already had, but it's sumpthin.

Hmmm, but isn't May too late for finaid packages? We have to decide in April. I submitted my FAFSA last week and the need access stuff, so I was hoping to hear back this month. Too optimistic?gaweenbob wrote:On the admitted student site's "checklist" page, they talk about financial aid packages under the May-June section, so I think it will be a while still. I think you need to be a bit more specific here. Are we talking merit aid or need based aid? If it's merit aid in the form of the matching scholarship, see my post a few pages back. If need-based in the form of grants (which is what I assume you're asking about), google.ssanonymous wrote:Hmmm, but isn't May too late for finaid packages? We have to decide in April. Under Review since 10.25 and have heard nothing back. There's little chance I attend Boalt now, but still somewhat confused at the lack of any feedback. Good luck everyone still waiting!

djwjddl, thanks. Don't know how I missed that. I wonder if need-based scholarships come out at the same time. Ah well.

Is a big scholarship from UVA (105k) more likely to be matched/effective compared to a 60-75k scholarship from NYU/Chicago?

Re: Berkeley c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
They might, they might not. it really depends when you submit your app for the matching scholarship as the matching scholarship decision can come out as early as March. At least initially, need-based and merit-based are completely separate processes. The former is handled by the office of financial aid, while the latter by the office of admissions. I believe they can adjust your need-based based on how much you get as merit-aid (and vice versa).ssanonymous wrote:djwjddl, thanks. Don't know how I missed that. Re: Berkeley c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
hard to really say, but i'd put my money on NYU/Chicago due to their being ranked higher. for example, in the past, people have suggested submitting a sizable michigan scholly offer over a bigger one from georgetown due to the difference in ranking.Teflon_Don wrote:Is a big scholarship from UVA (105k) more likely to be matched/effective compared to a 60-75k scholarship from NYU/Chicago?

I'm kind of guessing no. I bet there won't be any movement until FR1 results are released and then maybe FR2 will hear.Audeamus wrote:so any speculations on whether we will have movement today?
Although it would be awesome if all the early UR waiters were accepted today!

But whats funny is I still check this thread almost hourly on my phone knowing how very unlikely it is that we'll hear anything today. Just like I did yesterday and just like I'll do Monday.

Well they said a decision was expected on or around February 15. Looks like they're gonna stick to that schedule down to the day.

SO MUCH JOY. Call from Dean 10min ago.
He didn't say anything about merit-aid, does that mean I'm SOL (besides matching?).

I haven't heard much at all about merit aid yet, but I'd suggest submitting info re: matching.

+1 on the congrats. Also dates and status is basically mandatory at this point with so many people waiting in agony. Otherwise saying "In, gimme dat money!" is just self-congratulatory and does not help the community at all.gingerbreadsmouse wrote:CONGRATULATIONS! That's wonderful!
