Re: Berkeley c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
I figure it's because Harvard's application process is more numerical than Berkeley's? Theres a pretty tight GPA and LSAT floor with Harvard that keep at least a few people from even sending an app there. Wheres, Berkeley has a fairly wide range of numbers getting in and their application is relatively holistic. :/shntn wrote:Utter bloodbath. Dude I said you'd be stupid to take Berkeley instead of her. That's complimentary towards her.amonthofsundays wrote:Awww come on this isn't the place for Upton bashing. I'm just trying to figure out how to get Berkeley to love me.
Not to mention the hot photo I chose.

I've been UR since 1/7 and am not under FR2. Why don't they just reject me already? I'm so confused.

Same UR date and havent heard anything either. Should I still be expecting a reject? Multiple LSATs with highest at 169 and GPA above 75th. Or is Berkeley still accepting people without FR?cbarlow1016 wrote:I've been UR since 1/7 and am not under FR2. Why don't they just reject me already? I'm so confused.

I was on FR and got an email this morning saying I was in a "small group being held for further consideration" and they'd let me know by March 8th. Is this FR2 or another pseudo hold/waitlist thing? Will an LOCI make a difference at this point?

Sounds like FR2. Not sure about the value of a LOCI in that situation.HawkeyeGirl wrote:I was on FR and got an email this morning saying I was in a "small group being held for further consideration" and they'd let me know by March 8th. I mean, it sounds like you are gonna get evaluated against FR2 people, so in my mind its a pseudo-holdJaqen wrote:Sounds like FR2. Still UR 1/7. Seems like a couple people haven't heard anything after that unlucky UR date lol

Dude you applied waaaaay too late. You'll probably get into CCN and maybe one of HYS, but you really hurt yourself on the scholarship front. Reapply next year and you'll be looking at a minimum of a half-ride at CCN and probably two of HYS.TripTrip wrote:WL today. 175/4.0. Why no love, Berk?

Re: Berkeley c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
Those of you who received some sort of hold-ish email from Berkeley and are thinking of sending in an LOCI, please do so! Despite having not the best numbers (low 160s and 3.5x GPA), I got in after the LOCI. Granted my softs were very strong and I am URM, but still...I am convinced the LOCI made a + difference. Make sure you focus on substantial/significant achievements SINCE you filed your application. And yes an early app to Berkeley really does help -- because of BLS's emphasis on the qualitative aspects ("admitting a person" etc philosophy), sometimes they unofficially hold a file and then shore up their numbers through straight numbers candidates (people applying directly from undergrad become the quantitative buffers!). I sent in mine early in September and waited ages before receiving my decision last week.
And for me the greater challenge was making the first cut with the Admissions office before being sent for FR. Once that happened, I figured I was in friendly territory. So unless your numbers are 175+/3.9+, please refine and refine the qualitative aspects of your application!
There is hope! PM me if you wish to agonize. I can definitely commiserate.

I sent mine after Administrative Review (AR) when they sent that email saying it's now going to move to FR. I think they are pretty flexible about the LOCI, though of course the sooner the better (assuming you have solid things to add). You can also send it after hold or WL. Hold is kind of an invitation to you to add new and good developments. It's a polite way of saying we haven't decided on your candidacy, are awaiting other candidates because you're not a shoo-in at our school and if any/enough of them happen to have what you have (some experience, an extra degree, a particular URM/sought-after status, geography, a language you speak, active-duty military status) then we'll take the one who has the better numbers.
They seem to be keen on new, improved grades, especially in the AR stage. You see, during AR the emphasis is mostly on numbers and somewhat on the qualitative profile. I guess it would depend on the candidate but I can imagine a 65-35 (numbers-qualitative), 70-30, even 75-25 breakdown. The rule of thumb is that the more "non-traditional" you are -- the more years you've been out of undergrad -- the less quantitative Berkeley will be about assessing your application. This is unusual and is quite unique to Berkeley and it's especially true for folks who applied early because the adcomm has more flexibility this way. During the FR phase, however, the focus inverts towards the qualitative profile of the candidate because it's 6 professors and 12 (advisory and non-voting) students doing the evaluation. I cannot imagine professors or even current students feeling as keenly about USNWR LSAT median and UGPA obsessions as Admissions officers do! Profs on the adcomm mainly want to see which of the students they themselves might enjoy having in class, discussing the law with, collaborating in clinics and journals, who would add value to the legal and related professions, etc.
Bonne chance! You will be fine. Soldier on -- keep the faith

Which address do we send a LOCI too? The office of admissions or the deans office?

Including my LSAC # after my name has become so second nature, I've come very close to doing it on completely non-law school related emails, hahanigerian22 wrote:Definitely Office of Admissions and also mention your LSAC Number.
