Yeah, I always thought that "beggars can't be choosers" was the rule in these cases, but I've heard about people at other schools getting offered scholarships when they're offered spots on the waitlist. I guess if they are trying to fill a spot with someone with the same stats as the person who withdrew they offer the replacement person the same money? I don't know. I suppose it depends on how worried they are that you won't accept, and how bad their yield has been so far? If they're worried about yield protection my guess is they have a greater inclination to incentivize you.

Re: UCLA c/o 2015 Waitlist (2011-2012 cycle)
IMO, I think the WL consists of two general types:
(1) People who figured they would be WL'ed (me) because they are under at least one median (168/3.78 c/o 2014 #s).
(2) People UCLA had no business putting on the WL like PR-0927 who has stellar numbers above both medians or damn close.
I think people from group (1), if they got off the WL would not have much leverage and really should not expect any aid, but people from group (2) should have some leverage to negotiate money off the WL since schools are a little more desperate than past years.

When is/was your deadline for deciding?sailormoon wrote:i'm still in shock (160 LSAT), after writing a heartfelt LOCI, they scheduled an interview the next day. i interviewed and in about 3 hours got the call, i am still waiting for the email that will inform me about the seat deposit deadline
most of the questions were personal, like personal motivations, why law, why UCLA, also some clarifications on discrepancies like in my case, 5 year break in education, etc.
they were really nice and candid, some occasional joking and laughing, the Dean of Admissions has a great sense of humor, i felt really comfortable, it is more of a conversation rather than an interview, i was so impressed

Nice that you got money from Minnesota! Did UCLA give you any money? In these hard times, any amount of money is a big help.sailormoon wrote:may 10

I'm not, but I'm in the SW, so I don't think they're restricting the WL activity to CAcougarlive wrote:PS for those who interviewed, are you all in Southern California?

I was more wondering the distance those that were asked to interview had to travel.gravityrides0 wrote:I'm not, but I'm in the SW, so I don't think they're restricting the WL activity to CAcougarlive wrote:PS for those who interviewed, are you all in Southern California?

anyone who has toured UCLA or visited, were you able to meet the dean of admissions? If so, did you ask to see him or did he come out to talk to you?

Re: UCLA c/o 2015 Waitlist (2011-2012 cycle)
When I went for a tour he was the one who gave it, and answered questions. He was really helpful and informative, and if I wasn't sick and feeling like death warmed over I might have made a better impression. Everyone else on the tour had yet to apply. He didn't ask about our apps and I didn't think it was appropriate to bring up. We went back to the admissions office and he gave those who wanted one a business card. At this point I had already been waitlisted. I took his card, thanked him and left. In retrospect maybe I ought to have asked to speak with him in his office and made my case, but I was really sick and could barely talk without coughing so I figured if anything it would be a nuisance. A couple weeks later I returned for a class visit, didn't see the dean. A few weeks after that I emailed a LOCI. That was in February. A couple weeks ago I hand delivered a second LOCI and asked if I could chat with anyone but they were busy.

Well, I visited about a week ago to drop off my second LOCI, and that was my fourth time there, so I'm thinking any more would be over kill. But I could be wrong... Suggestions?

Re: UCLA c/o 2015 Waitlist (2011-2012 cycle)
I think what you've done is fine.. What I did was a very personal/heartfelt LOCI after my visit in late March explaining why I loved UCLA, followed by a more professional "these are the cool things I've done" LOCI in late April... The person I spoke to briefly after my tour is who contacted me just a week (or maybe 10 days) after my second LOCI to schedule the phone interview for the following week. got in the same day. I'd say what you've done is more than enough and just keep on sending LOCI once a month like they say... they probably know you by now and are aware of your interest! Good luckblurose wrote:Well, I visited about a week ago to drop off my second LOCI, and that was my fourth time there, so I'm thinking any more would be over kill. But I could be wrong... Re: UCLA c/o 2015 Waitlist (2011-2012 cycle)
Thanks! I kinda thought that I was doing the right things but it's nice to have that affirmed by someone in the same boat. I was just accepted off the waitlist at GW, and of all the schools that waitlisted me they were, and still remain, my second choice. I'm still hoping to get that call from UCLA. I will drop off another LOCI next month, maybe...

congrats on GW! your numbers must be pretty good though to be waitlisted and eventually accepted to such places.blurose wrote:Thanks!
