A big tip of the hat to someone who can answer this question

Why (if a school is likely to reject a prospective student) doesn't an admissions board just quickly send out a rejection letter, especially when the status says "application complete."

Case in point, school "A" quickly sent out a rejection letter, while school "B" (the better of the two schools) has been sitting on my application for awhile. What does this usually mean? Rejection? Waiting to see if spots open up when students withdraw/don't pay seat deposits? My GPA/LSAT score are fine for either school, my softs are strong, I'm an URM, and most importantly I'm a Texan (jk jk).

Enlighten me.

It means nothing. Schools do their reviews differently, some do waves of acceptances and waves of denials. Your application has probably been read and put in a pile waiting for the person who puts together the batch of decisions to get to the pile that yours is in. The only thing you can do is wait, but don't get your hopes up based on the length of the wait.

You know when you make popcorn, and you hit the automatic "popcorn" button on your microwave?

You aren't really sure when it will be done. Some of the kernels inevitably burn, and yet there always tend to be quite a few kernels at the bottom left un-popped, leaving you to wonder how reliable the automatic button is in the first place.

Admissions teams love popcorn.

Finally heard from school "B" aka Fordham!!! Waiting for them to respond was like those last few seconds of the Giants/Patriots Superbowl(s), but it was worth it!

Touchdown ;)
