US News ranking is not equivalent to academic placement rankings. Chicago does a better job at getting its students and alumni into academia. This is due to a number of reasons.
OK, thanks. I was just wondering why you put 3 > signs between Chi and CLS, but only 2 > signs between CLS and Berkeley. To me that means Chi is much much much better than CLS, which is only much much better than Berkeley.

Right. Over the last three years Chicago is farther from Columbia than Berkeley is closer. Berkeley had a few good placement years recently. Chicago is definitely better than Columbia, but Columbia isn't that far ahead of Berkeley. For whatever reason, Columbia just doesn't position its graduates too well for academia. For other areas (biglaw)N it's totally a wash between Chicago and Columbia, and Berkeley is definitely well behind them.

I haven't checked my status checker since January, but just noticed my latest date is 5/3. Is this significant at all?

Looking through last year's thread, more people got calls on 5/19.

it doesn't matter anyway. That's not how they would notify you of an acceptance or a release from the WL

Grateful, but sooooo confused right now. Was just about set on Ann Arbor...but Chicago is Chicago. Looks like I'm gonna Amtrak it to Chi-town next week to at least visit Hyde Park.
