I'm headed back to Texas on Monday. I'm arriving Thursday so I am hoping to go to a class on Friday! They are kind of long on Fridays so I am not sure how feasible it'll be. :)

I still haven't gotten any word from Stanford yet, but I thought this would be of interest for those of you that are in. Enjoy!

Quick question for everyone...

During the acceptance phone call, Dean Deal said that over the next few months students, faculty members, and other members of the Stanford community would demonstrate why Stanford would be the best place to spend three years pursuing legal education. Since the phone call, though, I haven't heard anything from SLS...

Is that normal? Other schools have had their students call, have sent out additional information, etc. I'm just wondering if it has been dead silent for others, as well. Thanks!

I've gotten a few emails from them (the Dean Kramer email, invitation to ASW), but that's about it. I did email the admissions office asking them if they could put me in contact with a few students whom I could talk to and Dean Deal responded pretty quickly. I subsequently heard from a few students who were eager to talk about Stanford/law school with me. Everybody at Stanford seems really nice.

I got an unsolicited email awhile ago from a student. She was very nice and helpful. But I will say I'm a little surprised; I was expecting a bit more since Dean Deal made it seem like they would really be pursuing us.

I got emails from a 3L from my state and a prominent alumni who practices in my state. Both were very nice.

Couple quick point:

Housing with students during ASW through SLS is only formally through the minority groups. You can still request it with Dean Deal and see if she can help, but if not, feel free to reach out to any of the SLSers on here, we'd be happy to host you (or find people who can!).

How does this work? Will I receive an email from the minority student organization? Thanks.

Yup, includes the gays! Folks will get emails from the relevant affinity group (in teh gayz case, OutLaw), seeing if you want to have housing for the weekend :)

Can they hurry up? I want an email from SLS OutLaw. :D

Bumping this thread since it's been inactive for a little while. I visited Stanford a couple of days ago and really enjoyed the vibe: people were friendly, the weather was perfect, and Munger and Neukom seemed almost too cool to be real. I took a few (admittedly poor quality) photos on my old iPod, so I'll put them here.

Congrats FEE!

For those attending ASW, what kind of social event would you be most excited about? Last year we did bowling, which was hit-or-miss, but the bowling alley shut down so we'll be trying something new. We are trying to get something different from the typical bar night that all the other schools do, but to be honest, there isn't all that much going on nearby Palo Alto.

Any preference from you guys would be swell.

Anything that doesn’t involve having to play sports, otherwise I’m going to have a mild panic attack about embarrassing myself.

Hey Everyone! Long-ish time lurker here, but not long enough to know some of the the forum protocol.

Rather than just overwhelming Stig with PMs about staying with students for ASW, should we start a thread somewhere where any current students can say they'd be willing to host or help find hosts? I would have started one already, but I wasn't sure if that was something to put in the "Talk About Law School Visits" forum or in the "Ask a Law Student/Graduate" forum.

I submitted the FAFSA 1/17 and the Need Access 1/28. The award info is actually sent via email, and you need your SUNet ID set up before you can access it. It can take up to 24 hours to activate, so definitely set that up if you haven’t already!
Edit: I also mailed them my taxes back in January, and my parents got around to mailing theirs a couple weeks ago.
