I have a question. Does CUNY offer some sort of scholarship (besides the graduate fellowship) to its admitted students? According to LSN, scholarships seem rare.

They mentioned at an information session once that you can consider their extremely low tuition your scholarship.

Well actually i got some movement. On 2/15 my status updated to UR again and now it says "2/17 decision letter sent" under notes. So maybe it did generate some movement or maybe it was a coincidence. In any case, 2LT, I'd try emailing them.

They do, but as you said, its rare. And unlike other schools, it seems that its not based mostly on numbers.

If I had been there, a comment like that would have bothered me. COL is ridiculously high in NYC, so a full scholarship, even half, at CUNY would mean a lot to people like me. That said, the low tuition is nice.

I did visit Flushing, and I know it's moving to LIC.

As for the implicit agreement about 4-6 weeks, I think that's basically the norm for any school after the December LSAT results are released. I don't know about other applicants, but I have to be pretty sure of where I'm going around April 1st. Having applied in early January to thirty schools (when I've heard back from half as of last week), I'll have to move on if I don't get a definitive answer from the schools that are still mulling me over. I'm a National Guardsman and I need to factor in about three months to coordinate an interstate transfer, and I'll be coming off an active duty for training period in early July. It's not unique to CUNY - looking at you, Syracuse and Drexel - but judging from the CUNY thread last year, it seems to have been a problem with them before.

I feel like this thread has taken a negative turn when it shouldn't have. Back to the new LIC campus. Anyone in the NYC area live near it, willing to go take photos?

I know of 2 people with scholarships. I think they're $5k each, but I'm not 100% sure.

...and then I went into review today. Funny if someone from admissions is indeed reading this and saw I was getting impatient.

Congratulations! Do you know where you will attend?

Probably Cardozo... As tempting as CUNY's tuition is, I feel that Cardozo would be a better choice for me. Plus the law firm I work for now is really encouraging Cardozo and I think I would be breaking valuable ties by going into CUNY... especially since I am not 100% sure that PI is for me.

New status today that says I've been admitted and that the offical acceptance letter is in the mail!

I got a letter from CUNY School of Law saying, "The cost of attendance for the 2012-2013 year is estimated at $30,034 In-state and $37,594 Out-of-state."

But on their website, their semester tuition for in-state is listed as $6,900.85 and out of state as $10,900.85. (http://www.law.cuny.edu/admissions/tuition.html)

I realize semester does not = year, but arent there 2 semesters in a year. Why do these numbers not add up.

And seriously 30k a year for CUNY!? Get outta here.

Hi all,

I'm wondering if any admitted students (other than cjb0502) have heard back from CUNY regarding fellowships or scholarships.

CUNY is my top choice because of its clinical offerings and total dedication to public interest. Tuition is obviously competitively low, but I've been offered significant scholarships from Cardozo and Brooklyn; if CUNY doesn't offer me anything, BLS and Cardozo would end up being more affordable options.

I think I'm a competitive applicant for scholarship/fellowship consideration but I got word of my acceptance on January 30th and haven't heard anything about scholarship offerings. I called the other day to inquire and the person in admissions said that they still have fellowships and scholarships to offer and that "the committee will reach out" to those they identify as candidates. I asked if there was a particular end-date for scholarship and fellowship offers and she said that there wasn't.

Hopefully some of you have some insight!

Congrats. If you're looking to work for private sector, then Cardozo would be a much better choice.

I'm sorry to hear that you and publicinterested aren't being treated with more respect. If I were a member of the admissions staff at a school with plummeting rankings and BAR passage rates, I would certainly be doing everything possible to retain highly qualified candidates such as you two.

Someone like publicinterested seems to be highly qualified, yet PI oriented. It would behoove CUNY to retain this person to at least hopefully help with the BAR passage rate since they could lose their accreditation if the problem persists. And shouldn't qualifications matter? There are many people who want to save the world who can't even help themselves. We need qualified people.

I still love CUNY and I apologize for venting my frustrations.

I agree. I have no PI experience, as I am still a college student, and that's why I didn't expect to actually be a strong consider for the fellowship. My personal statement was strongly PI focused, so I had a small gleam of hope that I would get invited for an interview.

I love the idea of attending CUNY, and living and working in NYC, but since I have substantial scholarships to other schools, I want to make my decision carefully, since living in NYC is very expensive! But, I guess I'm going to keep waiting and see what happens.

(I've had some frustrating experiences too, been waiting for a decision from South Carolina for three months, and I'm an in-state student. So I feel your pain)

I hope they come through for you and I hope you hear from SCL soon!
