I have a question. Does CUNY offer some sort of scholarship (besides the graduate fellowship) to its admitted students? According to LSN, scholarships seem rare.

They mentioned at an information session once that you can consider their extremely low tuition your scholarship.fatpeopleavenger wrote:I have a question. Does CUNY offer some sort of scholarship (besides the graduate fellowship) to its admitted students? According to LSN, scholarships seem rare.
Well actually i got some movement. On 2/15 my status updated to UR again and now it says "2/17 decision letter sent" under notes. So maybe it did generate some movement or maybe it was a coincidence. In any case, 2LT, I'd try emailing them.suits00 wrote:On 2/14, Kess posted: "So I emailed to briefly my express interest and ask if they have an approximate time frame during which I can expect a decison and they basically very nicely said that they have no idea... typical CUNY lol"2LT_CPG wrote:Mine has been stuck on "Ready For Review" since 1/6. I'm close to emailing them.
In other words, the admissions office said to f__k off.
Also, a 1L posted that he knows people (who were not on a waitlist) who were notified in April and even as late as JULY.
Hopefully you didn't irritate the adcom by sending them that email and deciding against you.Kess wrote:Well actually i got some movement. They do, but as you said, its rare. And unlike other schools, it seems that its not based mostly on numbers.fatpeopleavenger wrote:I have a question. Does CUNY offer some sort of scholarship (besides the graduate fellowship) to its admitted students? According to LSN, scholarships seem rare.

I did visit Flushing, and I know it's moving to LIC.NYCLSATTutor wrote:Also, I hope you know that the school won't be in the building you visited (assuming you visited it in flushing) come May....
I know of 2 people with scholarships. I think they're $5k each, but I'm not 100% sure.fatpeopleavenger wrote:I have a question. Does CUNY offer some sort of scholarship (besides the graduate fellowship) to its admitted students? According to LSN, scholarships seem rare.
Good luck!! Hope you hear something soon!2LT_CPG wrote:...and then I went into review today. Funny if someone from admissions is indeed reading this and saw I was getting impatient.
Congratulations! Do you know where you will attend?Kess wrote:In! And also in at Cardozo today. Cycle over. lol
Cost of Attendance is tuition + cost of living. Housing in NYC is expensive.ix88 wrote:guys, help, I am confused.
I got a letter from CUNY School of Law saying, "The cost of attendance for the 2012-2013 year is estimated at $30,034 In-state and $37,594 Out-of-state."
But on their website, their semester tuition for in-state is listed as $6,900.85 and out of state as $10,900.85. (http://www.law.cuny.edu/admissions/tuition.html)
I realize semester does not = year, but arent there 2 semesters in a year. Why do these numbers not add up.
And seriously 30k a year for CUNY!? Get outta here.
Oh thanks! Oh ok that's not so bad then b/c I can easily commute if I were to go there.NYCLSATTutor wrote:Cost of Attendance is tuition + cost of living. Housing in NYC is expensive.ix88 wrote:guys, help, I am confused.

I honestly thought I would be considered for the fellowship because I'm at almost 75%tile for LSAT and over 75%tile for GPA, and accepted on the first day that they sent out decisions. But I haven't gotten anything yet except a letter on how to finance my education. I'm a little disappointed, I didn't expect anything but I thought maybe I'd have a small chance.publicinterested wrote:

Congrats. If you're looking to work for private sector, then Cardozo would be a much better choice.Kess wrote:Probably Cardozo... As tempting as CUNY's tuition is, I feel that Cardozo would be a better choice for me. Plus the law firm I work for now is really encouraging Cardozo and I think I would be breaking valuable ties by going into CUNY... especially since I am not 100% sure that PI is for me.
I'm sorry to hear that you and publicinterested aren't being treated with more respect. If I were a member of the admissions staff at a school with plummeting rankings and BAR passage rates, I would certainly be doing everything possible to retain highly qualified candidates such as you two.kmokeefe wrote:I honestly thought I would be considered for the fellowship because I'm at almost 75%tile for LSAT and over 75%tile for GPA, and accepted on the first day that they sent out decisions. I haven't heard anyone else say that they got invited to interview for the fellowship aside from that one person, so I'd be interested in knowing if they're through deciding for that or not.
I agree. I have no PI experience, as I am still a college student, and that's why I didn't expect to actually be a strong consider for the fellowship. My personal statement was strongly PI focused, so I had a small gleam of hope that I would get invited for an interview.suits00 wrote:Someone like publicinterested seems to be highly qualified, yet PI oriented. It would behoove CUNY to retain this person to at least hopefully help with the BAR passage rate since they could lose their accreditation if the problem persists. And shouldn't qualifications matter? There are many people who want to save the world who can't even help themselves. We need qualified people.
I still love CUNY and I apologize for venting my frustrations.
