Being abroad during the application cycle seemed like an okay idea at first, but it stomps on any excitement I have about ASWs! even thinking about the price of a flight from where I am to boston is making me sweat :(

Talk about small world. Also, I attribue everything to our AP Gov class. ;)

Yeah, well Dr. Deess did have a PhD from Harvard, so naturally he must have made a few calls.

Hi all, another new KB2-er here! Just chiming in to say that she told me the letter wouldn't go out until "after the holidays" - of course that could be February, but I read it to mean the first part of January. We can hope...

Also, for those of us who got KB2s in the last couple days, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get the @law.harvard.edu email addresses until after the New Year, too... I would guess the office is closed tomorrow, and it's definitely closed next week. I'm just eternally grateful she didn't make us wait until after the holidays for the KB2s. :)

Very excited; got my package in the mail yesterday! It was dated the 20th, so it might have arrived sometime over the weekend (I was out of town). So, whoever said they aren't sending out packets until the new year/feb is probably wrong...

Does anyone know what time the admitted students weekend starts on March 3? I am trying to figure out if I should fly in the day before or really early that morning (and also, when to fly out). Flights are *really* cheap now so I want to book them.

Why does every school seem to have a different financial aid process? Am I correct in thinking basically for now we just need to worry about filing the FAFSA (available yesterday) and the Need Access Form (available tomorrow)?

Harvard's Financial Aid page is pretty overwhelming.

Also, how is everyone doing turning down scholarships from T-14 for $0 at HLS. It is causing me serious anxiety.

(Disclaimer: OBVIOUSLY still incredibly happy and thankful to be in at HLS, and I know none of us should be *complaining*, but still).

Well we need to do our taxes first to even fill out the FAFSA stuff so I guess it doesn't matter too much. We won't get W-2s for a awhile. More waiting - yippeee!

You don't need your taxes from 2011 to do the FAFSA. I spoke with some representatives today. You are only supposed to estimate. You also indicated that you "will file" a tax return for the year.

Though you can estimate, I always just do my taxes right away and then fill out the FAFSA at the same time. I make peanuts anyway, so it's not hard for me to finish the whole ordeal in a couple of hours.

Problem is that we changed our income last year pretty substantially. Taxes are also alot more complicated when you have tons of deductions - mortgages, dependents, etc. So we really have to wait to even guess our adjusted gross income. Back when I was single, it wouldn't be anything, but when you've got a husband who does alot of consulting on the side, has a full-time job and you have the same and then have 3 kids, etc. etc. etc. I'm so glad he deals with it and not me!

hey guys, working on my fafsa now.

So on the bottom of my dependency status tab, it says

You are considered an "independent" student. This means you are not required to answer questions about your parents. However, you may want to answer questions about your parents if:
you are a health profession student (such as a medical or nursing student), or
your school requires parental information from all students.

Am I correct in NOT filling out parental information?

EDIT: I think I got my answer, this is from the harvard law fin aid website
http://www.law.harvard.edu/current/sfs/ ... fafsa.html

The Federal government considers all graduate students to be independent for the purposes of determining eligibility for federal loans. Therefore, you only need to complete the student (and spouse, if applicable) sections of this form. Parent information is not required on the FAFSA for graduate students

but that's just for federal loans, right? has nothing to do with HLS grant aid?

The HLS FinAid office will request your parents financial information in their own set of forms. Doesn't really matter what FAFSA requires.

Yep, h won't consider you independant unless you are over 29 or can prove your parents are not in your life. But I think they only consider a portion if you are over 26 and it decreases each year. It has this info somewhere on the site, I remember there being a link for it early in the H main thread.

Similar situation here. My wife and I have a total of five W-2's, she's a full-time student, 2 kids, and rental property as well. Unfortunately, I do our taxes.

I've been assigned my @jd15.law.harvard.edu email address (yay!) but doesn't look like my admissions package has been sent yet. I know I should just chill but I really can't wait for it to get here. :)

Did you get that via email? I ask because I think we received our KB2's on the same day (12/22).

Thanks.
