Villanova 2015 Applicants

Post by 20130312 » Mon Nov 21, 2011 1:18 pm

Couldn't seem to find a thread for this, so I'll create one now.

Just went complete this past weekend, heard back today that I've been accepted w/ $20k scholly, 2.0 stipulation. E-mail says that this is the highest award they give out. Anyone know if that's the truth? Regardless, a very attractive offer and glad to get my first acceptance of the cycle! Thanks 'Nova!

Congrats. I was accepted last week but without word on the scholarship situation. I assume they told you about the $$$ in the acceptance email, right?

I was accepted today with the deans merit scholarship which is a full tuition scholarship so I don't think the 20k is the highest award

Congrats to both of you! My email also says Dean's Merit scholarship but only awards $20k. Interesting...

Accepted as well with 20K a year with the 2.0 stip. Do you mind asking what your numbers were for the full scholarship?

The 2.0 stip applies to the full scholarship as well but my numbers were a 3.6/166

I was accepted today with a 25k/yr 2.0 stip, which was also called the Dean's Merit Scholarship. Pretty good news to start the cycle off.

Also curious about this. Status changed to under review for me today. Wondering when I should expect to hear something...

I've been in review since 11/14 and no decision. Seems random.

How was the turnout for OCI (number of firms/available SA positions)? How did Villanova students do?

~30 firms, ~30 SA spots. Philadelphia market is still bad, and I'm still struggling to find something. I'm ranked in the 30s. Things are looking better for me now and I should be fine with finding summer employment, but it's definitely bad in Philadelphia still.

Scary. So where do you start looking if offer-less after OCI?

Indeed. Places spring up on the job posting website, and it basically runs like a hierarchy in terms of rank for the most part. So the people who don't lock up something at OCI are the next in line (i.e. me). If you want to do DA-esque stuff, getting summer jobs is easier but to actually become an ADA, you need good grades.

Thanks for the career info :D Now for the fun stuff, living on campus. Do you need a car? Are there places to live within walking distance of the school? How much is rent in the area approximately? How's the public transit system? Any complaints about life on campus?

You can't live on campus as a grad student as far as I know. All the law students live in apartments nearby. You don't need a car, but it'll make your live considerably easier. There are a few bars and restaurants within walking distance depending on where you live, but not a whole lot (certainly nothing like Philly). SEPTA sucks generally, which is why I'd recommend a car. It runs late during bad weather, which can complicate things when you're trying to get to class. The winter is especially terrible for SEPTA, but the school does a decent job of cancelling class if the weather is bad enough that SEPTA shuts down.

Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

Pick up basketball, soccer intramurals, basketball intramurals - stuff like that. There's not a whole lot of fun to be had in law school :|, after mid-October it's pretty much all day at the library. Occasionally a bar night at Kelly's or one of the other local bars, etc.
