DePaul 2011-2012 Cycle
Applied a few weeks ago, sent an email last week saying I should have a decision in 2-3 weeks. Haven't visited but love the city of Chicago.

I got in last week as well. $15,000/year with a 3.2 GPA stipulation. If I fail to meet the 3.2 GPA, but still make at least a 2.9 GPA, I can keep 50% of the money.

Is that a new addition since last year's stipulations?

Got in last week as well! It was a nice way to start the weekend. Need to check my calendar now to see if I can make it out to any of the admitted students weekends.

Congratulations! Have you had a chance to tour the school? I heard they renovated some of the classrooms and would like to hear how they stack up against the old ones.

Re: DePaul 2011-2012 Cycle
I haven't but I went to Lolla this summer and walked past it a million times, drooling slightly at the thought of attending law school in such an awesome city. I definitely intend to look at it when I have a chance, and would prefer to go to an admitted students weekend. Nothing like going to an event where a group of people try really hard to impress youCPM723 wrote:Congratulations! Have you had a chance to tour the school? I agree. I just have to figure out the timing of the whole thing. I'm really looking forward to getting the scholarship info. I would love for them to lower their scholarship requirements, their retention rate for those worries me a bit.

Re: DePaul 2011-2012 Cycle
Seconded. The thought of going from ~$25,000/year in tuition back up to $40,000/year weighs heavy. The option to keep 50% with a 2.9, at least for me, is the only thing keeping DePaul on my radar. That and the fact that I can commute from home for free. DePaul's statistics nose-dived for the Fall 2011 class, so maybe its an attempt to draw in some better talent.CPM723 wrote:I agree. Are you looking into Loyola at all? Also, do you think that DePaul would get rid of their stipulations if you negotiated with them? I'm interested in getting my scholly info. According to LSN, I have similar numbers to you.

Re: DePaul 2011-2012 Cycle
I applied to Loyola too. Hopefully we'll hear back in the next two to three weeks, but I doubt I'll get any money out of them. And to be honest, DePaul's employment prospects are close enough to Loyola's that I couldn't justify spending the extra $15,000/year. The other downside is the fact that Loyola is outside of the Loop. I would take Metra in...and I wouldn't want to hassle with transfering to CTA.CPM723 wrote:Are you looking into Loyola at all? I sincerely doubt that I would get anywhere by negotiating with DePaul. Now if I was at the 75th percentile for their LSAT, GPA, or both, I might be bold enough to try. I just don't think I have much leverage with my numbers. Its worth a shot though, you have nothing to lose.

Yeah, I have the GPA to negotiate, but i'm only a point above their LSAT median. Have you seen DePaul's facilities?

I applied to Loyola as well. Apparently they should start reviewing those apps soon (December), so I'm looking forward to that. I also got into John Marshall with $$$ and am going to Chicago the last weekend of March for an admitted students weekend-palooza.mrtoren wrote:I applied to Loyola too. Nice. Depending on where I get in I may be doing the same. I would like to check out DePaul's facilities because I heard they did not match up to Loyola's. But since they've been renovated I would be interested to see how they are now.

Got my admission packet in the mail today with scholarship information. $20k per year with a 3.2 gpa stipulation. Meh.

That's great! I'm still waiting on mine. Hopefully tomorrow. Is DePaul one of your top options?

Thanks! No, actually DePaul is at the bottom of my within reach list. I will gladly go here because Chicago is awesome, but I would rather go to Iowa and pay the in-state tuition.CPM723 wrote:That's great! I'm still waiting on mine. Hopefully tomorrow. Is DePaul one of your top options?

That makes sense. Are you going to try to negotiate the stipulations or anything?nickjive wrote:Thanks! No, actually DePaul is at the bottom of my within reach list. Re: DePaul 2011-2012 Cycle
It depends on what kind of scholarships (if any) I get at other schools in order to negotiate. I don't know the exact statistic, but a 3.2 gpa is probably the top third of the class. I would want to be in that top third anyway in order to get a job after graduation.CPM723 wrote:That makes sense. Are you going to try to negotiate the stipulations or anything?nickjive wrote:Thanks!
