BYU 2012

Post by snd1988 » Wed Nov 09, 2011 2:43 am

Anyone applying or already admitted? I received early acceptance here and submitted my acceptence of offer letter. Paying the deposit in February...YAY!

I'll be applying as soon as the December LSAT scores are back. My GPA and projected LSAT aren't stellar, so I'm hoping to really highlight my military experience and previous workforce background. I've been in the Air Force for 8 years doing Intelligence and Language Analysis. I speak Arabic (and Hungarian) at work, and I've been working as a Program Manager for the last two years - budget of about $200k. With a less-than-impressive GPA and marginal LSAT, you think I've got a chance?

Just submitted my application today. My chances are slim with a 3.64/161, but maybe my early app coupled with my unique major/work experience will do the trick? (computer science, PHP/MySQL developer).

BYU places a lot of emphasis on diversity...perhaps more than other schools. Both my gpa and LSAT were not in their 75th percentile. But my life experience and non-LDS status gave me an edge in the diversity factor. My scores were average at best....so yes, it is possible for both of you to still have a shot. Definately apply and keep in touch with the admissions team. From what I could tell they value enthusiasm about their school. Good luck!

Just got an email from GaeLynn Kuchar. It says my application is complete, but "applications will not be reviewed until December." I know we BYU applicants are a small group, but on LSN it looks like they haven't sent any decisions out. Does this mean they haven't started reviewing applications at all yet? And that those of us who have gone complete will be in the first "round" of apps?

No, unless you have URM status. BYU has a hard time attracting URMs.

They didn't start sending out answers until February I think. I was a rare case in that I was a 2011 applicant they asked to come back for 2012. But yeah...I think the first pool will come out in Feb.

I'm a second year student and, at least for my year, people started being accepted in December (I had an interview w/ Dean Hernandez where he offered a spot in mid-December).

I hadn't checked my status checker in a while, but I went complete on 11/22 and under review on 12/5.

Good luck on your applications. I'm a 1L at BYU and saw on the law school calendar that the admissions committee met yesterday and it reminded me of when I was going through the process.

Looks like it took a while to process the Dean's Cert and the Ecclesiastical Endorsement. I turned my app in 11/10 and it's complete as of 12/12. Hope I turned it in early enough to make up for a slightly low LSAT...

Hey everyone, joining the thread--I've been looking for it for months! I just looked at my status checker and saw I went under review on 12/21 (applied 11/3). It looks like there hasn't been any movement, except for the poster above me who was admitted at the end of last cycle.

Good luck everyone!

My status checker just updated again, still says Under Review..but the date changed to 1/4. Hoping that means a slew of decisions are coming soon.

Aaaaaaaaaahhhhh! I was all set to wait forever, but now I made the mistake of checking this forum. It's all I can do to keep from checking my status and this website twice a day.

I was in a habit of checking the status checker, TLS, and LSN at least twice a day. Now tomorrow I have to fly across the country for 2 weeks of job training. Decisions will probably be sent out while I'm gone so I won't have anyone with whom to celebrate or be depressed...

Received an email on Wed asking me to schedule a time for a phone interview with Dean Hernandez for next week. Not sure if this means I'm in or not, although I think it's a pretty good sign!

Definately a great sign! Anyone who was admitted in prior years had their decision given by telephone. I would bet money you made it. If so, I have met my first classmate! Good luck!

Wow, congratulations! I'm so jealous. Is BYU your number one choice?

I would definitely be happy to go to BYU, but I'm still undecided about which school is my top pick.

I went to BYU for undergrad.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about Provo, or questions about BYU that are not law school specific.

Had the phone interview yesterday with Dean Hernandez. He offered admission plus a scholarship! We had a great conversation, in which he framed several unique reasons to consider attending BYU, which obviously is a very different institution than most other law schools. I plan on visiting in March, and will very seriously consider this offer.

Are you active military or are you entitled to Yellow Ribbon benefits? If it's the latter, GULC will basically be free.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
