I've been accepted to better schools such as Hofstra, St. Johns, a few others similarly ranked and am wait listed at a bunch other top 50 schools. Anyone have any advice ? I am not African American and my only concern for attending Howard is that more opportunities will be presented to African American students. Any input on this ? Thanks fellas

Well a few things I considered when deciding: You need to ask yourself, are the schools you are considering more regionally known? do you want nation flexibility in terms of opportunities? It would help talking to current students or alum about whether competition is presented with other neighboring schools for positions offered. You should also ask yourself what type of debt load you are willing to take on and the stipulations about scholarships. I was given a scholarship at Howard and I must stay in the top 15% to keep this particular scholarship. Yet what was comforting was that to receive any scholarship you must be in the top 50%, and the tier determines the offer amount (correct me if I'm wrong people). Also, are you willing to accept the debt load if you lose said scholarship.

Concerning opportunities presented to only AA students??? That just sounds outrageous, but I understand your concerns. My understanding is that once an employer comes to a school to recruit they are looking at academic standing, the fact that they are recruiting at Howard is the "diversity" they are looking for. I just don't think you should come to Howard thinking you will be treated as a minority and offered special treatment. From conversations from faculty and students from all sorts of schools (GW, UMD, UF) law school is a level playing field. But of course I am a 0L taking the advice from a small sample of people. Howard has a pretty good employment statistic breakdown that might ease your nerves and help narrow your decision regarding employment.

At this point, I would suggest going to the schools and seeing which one you connect with in terms of location, size, focus, faculty, and job prospects. You have to go the school that fits well with YOU...good luck!

Hello future classmates,

If any females are still looking for housing there's a room available for a really reasonable price in an apartment complex in Silver Spring, MD. Just send me a pm if you want more details and are interested in the place.

Thanks

Hey,

I'll be taking the train to school since 1L's can't park on campus during school hours but I'll also have my car since the apartment comes with free parking. Although, there was a lot of things that were walking distance including the metro so, I probably won't use my car that much.

Yes, Silver Springs seems like a good value for the price and conveniently located. Does anyone know the exact requirements for obtaining a full merit scholarship for your 2L and 3L years, if you didn't get one for 1L? Any info would be very useful! Thanks!

Anyone that was recently accepted to Howard get their packet in the mail yet? I received an email last week asking if I was still interested and then a couple hours later received another email saying I was accepted and the packet would come int he mail shortly. I was wondering if anyone had reveived their package and if scholarship info was included in the packet. I would consider Howard based on the scholarship they offer but without money from them I will be withdrawing.

As far as the people talking about housing, Silver Spring would be a great place to live if you are going to Howard. You could ride the metro or buses into DC and save yourself from sitting in traffic. Other good areas would be Alexandria, Rockville or Bethesda.

Has anyone gotten their medical hold removed from their record yet? I faxed the papers in last week and it's still up there. They said their received them but nothing has changed on BISON.

Speaking of medical forms, do they really require the shots they mention on the forms? I've been out of undergrad for about 7 years...

If you aren't aware, there is a 2015 Facebook group where many people are asking/answering similar questions
