I was accepted about a month ago and still haven't received any scholarship offers. As an international student, am I eligible for the Miami Scholars? Because I know that international students are unable to apply for financial aid. Thank you.
I wrote to them last Fall and they told me international students were eligible. I wasn't sure at first because on their website it says "The Miami Scholars Program targets candidates from across the United States who, in addition to excellent academic achievement and strong scores on the LSAT, have a demonstrated interest in public service". Ever since they told me international students were eligible, I guess they just wanted to say on their website that the program targeted a lot of people from different background but the sentence used is just a bit misleading.

I have no idea. I have been accepted for about 3 weeks but haven't heard anything yet regarding scholarships, and I'm really surprised ever since my numbers are really high and I've read about people on this thread receiving full-rides offers with LSAT scores and GPAs lowers than mine (and yes, I also have tons of softs).
Can you define "really high"?
168 LSAT + 388. Compared to their medians (157 - 3.41) and their 75th percentiles (160 - 3.57), I would have expected them to offer me quickly a good scholarship.

quality vs quantity

I'm sure admissions has a pretty difficult process to figuring out scholarships that a lot of people don't think about when they wonder why they didn't receive as much $ as someone else
?! Excuse me but just because someone does a lot of work in his/her community, knows a lot of languages and has a lot of diverse experiences on their resumes does not mean it's all batched up. I can assure you my softs that would impress to any la school.

Well apparently it didn't impress Miami....

I'm not saying you are not qualified. The application process is probably more complicated than you think. You are really coming off as an overconfident ass. You were only accepted 3 weeks ago. Chill the hell out and wait like the rest of us.

It took almost two months for me to hear about scholarships, so I think you can relax. I also applied really early, and I know that the later you apply the less scholarship money is available. They may also be waiting until after the first seat deposit in order to see how much money will be freed up.

The scholarships so far seem to be based mainly on numbers, with a few URM or good soft surprises. I'm talking TFA, Peace Corps, military, significant work experience. Those are what the schools consider good softs- other things are basically tie breakers between candidates with similar numbers. Most people way overemphasize their softs.

If you are awarded money, you will get an email telling you that you were awarded a scholarship, but you will have to wait for snail mail to find out the amount and whatnot. Good luck!

Edited for grammer.

Could be just me, but I did not receive an email... Just a letter one day in my mailbox.

Yea definately. I didn't hear back for about 2 months. I don't think you should give up hope for scholarships yet.

Thank you for providing TLS entertainment.

In all seriousness though, just try to realize that there are hundreds of other candidates with a combination of numbers and softs that are just as good as yours. Just because what little information you can gather from reading posts about a candidate does not stack up to your stats does not mean they are a weaker candidate. For one you simply don't know the whole package, and you have no idea how the admissions office is making their decisions. Sometimes an applicant's package will add up to more than the sum of their parts.

You did come across as entitled, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt - I am sure you're not as pretentious as you sounded.

That being said, I'm withdrawing, and freeing up a full ride scholly, so maybe you'll snatch it up - just don't get mad if you don't!

I am pretty sure he is stronger than I am, and I got accepted back in November.

Maybe we can see each other at admitted students day and he can tell me how much better he is than I am. I think I would really like that.

1L here,

Just wanted to give you guys some information on the curve/grades for your first year when you guys are considering your scholarship stips. The curve guidelines are quite broad compared to other schools so there might be some decent fluctuation from year to year so take these stats as you will The median for the 1Ls after spring semester was a 3.0. However, this year the school has changed the weight of a B+ from a 3.5 to a 3.3 so my guess would be that the median will be a bit below a 3.0 for my class after this semester. As far as how the curve is working so far this year, the school doesn't release class rank or median after first semester. The only data point provided is that the deans list cut off (top 20%) was a 3.319. After second semester for last year's 1Ls the deans list cut off was around a 3.41 if i remember correctly. Not sure what the cut off was for deans list after first semester for last year;s 1Ls or if the cut off in anyway increases from first to second semester or if the median increases. Hope this helps and if there is enough interest I can do a general question and answer with my limited half semester 1L experience in the "ask a law student" section.

I did the same thing, they told me I wasn't going to be offered anything, which is why I withdrew.

Yes. It seems strange that they wouldn't offer you a scholly. Please negotiate.
