My scholarship came separately in the mail.ineptimusprime wrote:Accepted today.
Received acceptance e-mail but no scholarship e-mail. Do they typically come at the same time? I was hoping/am hoping to get the out of state waiver. If I dont get it, do you guys think Id have a chance to negotiate for it with a 3.6/154?

Re: Texas Tech 2012
My brother and I drove from Logan, UT to Lincoln/Omaha, NE to Lubbock, TX and then back to Logan, UT this week. In all, it was 42 hours of driving and a couple thousand miles. I'm pretty much dead.
The verdict on Lubbock/Tech: I think you guys should be more worried about Amarillo. That place looks super trashy... at least from the freeway. Maybe the shock of how ghetto Amarillo was prepared me for Lubbock? Anyways, I didn't think Lubbock was THAT bad (note: I didn't say it was good, either. Yes, I thought it smelled like corn nuts, and yes, everything in the town not across the street from Jones AT&T seemed old and dingie).
The Tech campus is absolutely stunning. I loved the architectural style it was done in. Jones AT&T Stadium is one of the better looking stadiums I've seen in all of the country (though it didn't hold a candle to Nebraska's Memorial Stadium). The new addition to the law school at Tech is awesome, though the rest of the building was kind of "meh." In all, I could see myself there for 3 years of law school, but I'm unsure I'd feel comfortable living in Texas for the rest of my life should I even be able to get a job at all. It's just too foreign to me. The other side of that coin is that I felt comfortable enough in Lincoln/Omaha and in the rest of Nebraska to say I'd be fine practicing there long term. Lincoln is BY FAR the best town of the 3 I visited.
Tech's not out of the running entirely, but they'd probably have to up my scholarship to compete with in-state at Nebraska. Any tips on how to approach negotiating with the school? I've got three options (Idaho, Nebraska, and Creighton) that are a little (to a lot) cheaper than Tech would be.

Re: Texas Tech 2012
Last year I was able to successfully get them to up my scholarship. I sent Dean Perez an email saying I was facing a difficult decision (yada yada yada others schools gave me scholarship money). He had me fax the scholarship letter to him and in about a week he notified me that the scholarship committee upped it. I know believe jmill had his scholarship substantially increased, so I would definitely suggest giving it a try.ineptimusprime wrote:My brother and I drove from Logan, UT to Lincoln/Omaha, NE to Lubbock, TX and then back to Logan, UT this week. Just changed to decision made, and there's a decision letter showing under mailings. Also have a seat deposit of 300.00 due on April 6th. I'm pretty sure this means I got in, but still no email or scholarship info yet!

Same thing happened to me. I called and they said they don't make people pay seat deposits unless they get in and then I got an email about an hour or so later from dean perez saying I was in. Congratulations.

I got my scholarship e-mail the day after my acceptance. I wouldn't be worried yet. Some weren't notified until they got the letter via snail mail.Lindsey4468 wrote:JUst got the acceptance email but there was no scholarship info included. Damn
Don't stress. Is Tech high on your list? From your profile you've got some pretty sweet options already.

No, Colorado is front runner right now however, the prospect of leaving law school semi debt free is appealing if tech would throw me a good offer! I guess it's a waiting game again for me.ineptimusprime wrote:I got my scholarship e-mail the day after my acceptance. I wouldn't be worried yet. Shouldn't be too long, I got mine the next morning. Got my acceptance letter in the mail today. In the bottom right hand corner in blue handwritten ink it says "P.S. you have a bright future ahead of you! I think you have a lot to contribute to your class." --- signed SP for Steven Perez (assistant dean). Did anyone else get anything like this? And why have I still not hear anything regarding scholarships

Re: Texas Tech 2012
Thank you! I was having a hard time telling if it was handwritten or computer screened on, but that just confirmed it. What a nice touch! And yes, I am freaking over the scholarship...unnecessary, I know. But since graduating in December, I'm bored and have nothing better to do than obsess :-/ sorry guys!mtyler19 wrote:I got a note too, but it was different so they are definitely personal.
