I got my waitlist letter the other day too

Same here. Wait list. I really want an acceptance. That would mean I could move back to OC.

Do you have any information as how UCI evaluate students with advanced degrees? I have a PhD in biomedicine but not sure how much that would help.

Thank you.

No idea how it factors in but all three classes has at least one PhD in the sciences. But in terms of the evaluation process I don't know.

Guys, I'm so pumped to see y'all during ASW! I have been waiting for so long to get in, and now that I'm in, it's my time to celebrate, right?

Any idea of a dress code? This is the kind of thing I'd professionally dressed for, but I've seen in other threads that people say these events are more on the casual side.

I feel that generally, with these kind of gatherings, you can't go wrong with business casual. What the female equivalent of khakis, collared shirt, non-sneaker shoe is -- on that matter, I'll defer to the audience.

Eh, I'm just going [conservative] casual unless there's a dinner or some kind of event that indicates otherwise. I agree you can't really go wrong with business casual, though.

Any idea when they give out info about need-based grants? I filled out the FAFSA a while ago and now they want verification by June...but I'm hoping that does not mean I will not know more until then...

Thanks guys. I saw the video for ASW in 2009, and everyone dressed differently. You'd see people in suits in one shot, and then someone wearing a sweatshirt the next. I think I'll just go with what I previously had in mind.

The scholarship comes in a separate letter than the housing. You shouldnt worry yet. Where are you btw? I want to know when I should expect stuff!! :)

Got my scholarship info a little less than two weeks later. Received the financial aid letter first, then the admit letter, then the scholarship letter. I live in southern California. You'll probably get it by the end of this week or beginning of next.

Ah good to see I'm not the only one! I received the RSVP e-mail but nothing about stip/reimburse.

There is a reimbursement. $350 for out of state and $150 for in state. See you guys there!

I got that too. I'm really hoping we will get the package before and that's just their way to know we weren't lying.

Would you mind calling and asking sometime? I browsed around my UCINET but it didn't really say.

(I'm out of the country so it's kinda hard for me to call, sorry, not being extra lazy)

Calling is a good idea...I'll do that and follow up ITT.

Just an FYI for all other admits, I got a letter explicitly stating that I won't be receiving merit aid (I appreciate them saying that flat-out so I know what I am working with).

I am not sure if they're going to be flexible since last year everybody got at least 1/3 but they didn't seem to budge (at least on TLS), and this is the first year without guaranteed scholarships...

Edit: Is anybody else utterly confused when using UCINET? It doesn't seem to be a user-friendly interface. Obviously I found the financial aid portion but it's just such a bizarre design...

I called - they said that they select some students for verification (not sure how many, but I guess we were just "lucky"), and I assume they'd only need to verify people that qualify for the need-based grants based on the FAFSA alone.

Unfortunately, they need the verification before they send out the package, so the sooner we complete it the better...
