I'm repeating what I was told by Dean Janice Austin. Her email verbatim for you: "One statistic that we are already very proud of is the number of students from the class of 2012 who have accepted federal or state judicial clerkships---as a percentage of the graduating class and based upon the judicial clerkships statistics that US News and World Report tracked and reported last year, plugging UCI in, we are only topped by Yale and Stanford."

I don't really ask that you love Irvine as I do, nor do I particularly care. I do, however, wonder where your snark is coming from, as no one here is challenging your beliefs, but simply stating their intention to apply to this school. The grudging tone of your responses simply makes no sense to me at all.

Obviously a smaller number is being placed in clerkships because the class size is much smaller. I really do not want to argue the point with anyone.

State clerkships are not usually much of a challenge from what I have gathered. I would figure out what the % of Fed. clerkships were. I dont like all this hype, I doubt they break T20 when they come into the rankings and I would hate to see any students misled. I just hope people make informed decisions not only based off what someone trying to sell their school tells you. I just hope that if you are also accepted to UCLA or USC you will strongly consider it as those will provide much better job opportunities. But just to be clear... you have spent time on or around the UCI campus right? because the demographic of UCI is not for everyone.

It was suggested by one of my favorite professors, a recent grad of the law/crim program there, that I look into it and I am very glad I did. Irvine is now my top choice for so many reasons. I have spoken with a dean and one of the faculty members from the Law, Criminology, and Society program and I have to say that both of them were so incredibly informative and I am hoping to go the dual route. Though some may find this less important than I did, they responded to emails more quickly than anyone else I've contacted, which I think shows a lot of dedication to their students/prospective students. I am also pleased that they really do seem to take an interdisciplinary approach, based on the little bit I could gather on that front. Their clerkship placement for the last summer, according to the email, was second only to Stanford and Yale. Firms are also lined up to interview the students, from the sounds of it. Plus, who can beat that location? I'd study every morning on the beach. All of this, combined with the surprisingly awesome faculty Chemerinsky put together has convinced me that UCI is where it's at. I hate to sound like an advertiser for the school, but I am really thinking this is far and away one of the best choices we could make. Only the cost of living and financial aid is really a concern to me at this point, but I'm sure that'll get figured it out. Unfortunately, my LSAT is right at the 25th percentile, but hopefully my GPA being at the other end will push me past the waitlist. Wish me luck, and good luck to all of you. Hopefully I'll be seeing some of you next fall.

Edit: For the poster asking about when it will be ranked, I remember reading (I think here) that they'll be in the 2014 USNWR rankings.

Haha, no you wouldn't. I took summer classes there while living at home for extra units and never studied on the beach, nor did I know of others doing this.

Please show some proof of this clerkship placement, because there is no way its clerkship placement is higher than Harvard, CCN, MVPB..... seriously come on

I'm just finishing my undergrad at UCI next week and I can tell you lots of people do in fact study at the beach. Lots of undergrads (probably not that many grad students) live in Newport Beach so studying at the beach is quite common actually.

I applied to the law school and was very impressed by what I saw during my tour and that every attorney I've talked to has had nothing but amazing things to say about UCI Law. I just don't think I'll end up here for law school as I don't really want to spend another three years in Irvine.

I have done a thesis paper on the post-Goldwater conservative revolution in OC. I also have done research for my adviser that critiques such planned communities. The professor that recommended I research UCI is into STS theory and about as far from conservative as you could imagine and she loved UCI and said that she found a good group of interesting people in Irvine. Besides, there is life outside of Irvine, right? I'm more interested in the school and its programs, though the climate and proximity to LA and beaches is a nice plus. I can deal with conservatives without feeling the need to rant from my admittedly comparatively radical political perspective, so I should be fine there.

And what did he gush about? UCI will not even come close to being ranked where georgetown is, when it finally gets ranked.

...and you're not saying anything that he didn't also say. The UCI-GTown comparison was never brought up, conversation was solely about Irvine, in and of itself, and how it has fared in the SoCal market.

The only thing I got before this was an email on 11/18 so I'm guessing that was my complete date?

Also, for those that got accepted. Did you receive any scholarship $$ or anything info about tuition since I know that Irvine gave 100%/50%/33% to the last 3 class respecively. Any info on this?

No mention of a scholarship in the acceptance email. I'd imagine if I do get a scholarship, they'll mention it in the actual acceptance letter I get?

Not necessarily. A lot of schools don't release any financial aid info until later. Vandy, for example, started accepting weeks ago, but won't release financial aid until February or March, I believe.

But congrats! UCI is the last place I applied to but I'm actually really excited about it. Hopefully I'll get good news like you did!

Went complete on 11/15, confirmation e-mail received 11/21...

Anxiously refreshing my e-mail... haha. This can't be healthy!

Nobody has heard anything aside from the two initial acceptances on TLS? I know last year the denies came via Snail Mail, a little unkind if you ask me, I'd rather just get an email sooner rather than later.

Went to UCI for undergrad, definitely my top choice, though my numbers probably will not even get me a waitlist :/.

Good luck to everyone!

i thought the silence was a little strange too, maybe the UCI hype has really died down though. only uci admit on LSN is also one of the TLS admits. hmm....

i thought i'd get in somewhat easily - uci undergrad, ok stats (for uci). guess we'll see!

It'll be interesting to see how many applications they get this year and what it takes to get in now that they aren't guaranteeing scholarships. On the tour I took I was told they were aiming for an incoming class of 140 students. However, I also read online that they said they won't lower their admissions standards just so they can fill the class. Good luck to all still waiting to hear back.

Similar thoughts to you guys... It does seem the trend for the years it has been open is accepting lower numbers each year (not by much of course).

Maybe they are holding off on the rest of the decisions until they think they will get more applications? There is a huge trend this year in a smaller applicant pool... Hopefully we all can keep eachother posted on here :)

I've been complete since 11/18, still haven't heard anything. I wonder if it's better that I haven't gotten a response yet. =/ I'm a bit nervous...
