UCI (UC Irvine) c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Doesn't seem to be one of these yet, so here we go.
WARNING: PS must be between 350-500 words. How annoying.
DS has a limit of 750 words.
The "Why UCI" is REQUIRED, also has a 350-500 word requirement.

The admissions guy that I talked to at one of the law fairs seemed really laid back, so they might not care.horrorbusiness wrote:My PS was like 530 words and WHY UCI was about 320. They gon' be mad?
On another note, I applied a few weeks ago and didn't get any sort of status checker or acknowledgement, so I emailed and got a response yesterday. Apparently they aren't even going to start looking at applications until next week, just FYI.

Yeah the admissions guy I talked to said they aren't very strict on the 500 word limit. He told me that they know 500 words should be about a page and a half but that it's totally fine if yours happens to be two full pages.

"The University of California, Irvine School of Law...has been granted provisional accreditation by the American Bar Association. Law schools are eligible for provisional accreditation after two years, and full accreditation after five. Provisional accreditation means that graduating students can take the bar exam in California without taking a qualifying "baby bar" exam."

I don't know when they will be ranked though!

Hi. Did you get a status checker log in? I only got an email saying my file was complete and the decision would be made within 4-6 weeks.buddyluv545 wrote:Received my status checker today, I applied 10/24!

I'm just finishing my undergrad at UCI and took a tour of the law school today. The woman that gave me a tour said they just started reviewing applications and will send some decisions out before Christmas but most won't go out until January. I was very impressed with the facility.

All I got was a reply as well. I assume a lot will be done before Christmas since they did e-mail us with a 4-6 week time frame.

UCI doesn't do status checkers. Here is the exact wording of the email they sent me after applying. I also got a "app complete" email about a week after applying, detailing which of my documents were received. They say 4-6 weeks for decision.buddyluv545 wrote:Received my status checker today, I applied 10/24!
Thank you for submitting an application for admission to UC Irvine School of Law.
Since we think the status checker is too impersonal, we will personally inform you on the status of your application throughout the process. Please plan on receiving another update shortly. If you have additional questions, please contact us directly.

I apologize I did not receive a REAL status checker. Just an e-mail telling me about my status. I apologize for the confusion!

I'm a 1L at UCI currently, if anyone has any questions. Feel free to send me a private message if you have any questions. (I don't check these forums very often, so I might miss something you post generally. Sending me a private messages will trigger an e-mail to be sent and make sure I respond quickly.)
UCI is awesome, by the way. My class is generally extremely satisfied with nearly every aspect of the law school.

I think the rep at the fair told me they wouldn't be ranked until after they had employment stats.buddyluv545 wrote:AssumptionRequired wrote:When will they be aba certified?

Anyone hear anything from their UCI applications yet? I'm very curious as to who they will be accepting as they have not announced any kind of scholarship for their students this year... wonder how it will change the pool. UCI is one of my top choices.

Re: UCI (UC Irvine) c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I will be applying next week and I am excited. It was suggested by one of my favorite professors, a recent grad of the law/crim program there, that I look into it and I am very glad I did. Irvine is now my top choice for so many reasons. I have spoken with a dean and one of the faculty members from the Law, Criminology, and Society program and I have to say that both of them were so incredibly informative and I am hoping to go the dual route. Though some may find this less important than I did, they responded to emails more quickly than anyone else I've contacted, which I think shows a lot of dedication to their students/prospective students. I am also pleased that they really do seem to take an interdisciplinary approach, based on the little bit I could gather on that front. Their clerkship placement for the last summer, according to the email, was second only to Stanford and Yale. Firms are also lined up to interview the students, from the sounds of it. Plus, who can beat that location? I'd study every morning on the beach. All of this, combined with the surprisingly awesome faculty Chemerinsky put together has convinced me that UCI is where it's at. I hate to sound like an advertiser for the school, but I am really thinking this is far and away one of the best choices we could make. Only the cost of living and financial aid is really a concern to me at this point, but I'm sure that'll get figured it out. Unfortunately, my LSAT is right at the 25th percentile, but hopefully my GPA being at the other end will push me past the waitlist. Wish me luck, and good luck to all of you. Hopefully I'll be seeing some of you next fall.
Edit: For the poster asking about when it will be ranked, I remember reading (I think here) that they'll be in the 2014 USNWR rankings.

A GTown Law alum who worked in DT Los Angeles and currently works in Irvine gushed about UCI Law. Didn't say anything I didn't already know, but it was interesting to see someone from the professional/working world validating Irvine.

And what did he gush about? UCI will not even come close to being ranked where georgetown is, when it finally gets ranked.hobojarpen wrote:A GTown Law alum who worked in DT Los Angeles and currently works in Irvine gushed about UCI Law. Haha, no you wouldn't. I took summer classes there while living at home for extra units and never studied on the beach, nor did I know of others doing this.zarathustra25 wrote:I will be applying next week and I am excited. Please show some proof of this clerkship placement, because there is no way its clerkship placement is higher than Harvard, CCN, MVPB..... seriously come on
